"Bye Moomy! Bye Dadfoot!" Niki called out the window, waving.
"So, should we go find a seat?" Harry asked.
"Sure." Ron said. "Coming, Nicole?"
"Niki," Niki corrected him, "And I think I want to go make some new friends."
"Well, if you need somewhere to sit, you can come join us." Harry smiled at his sister. Niki smiled back, and skipped down the train.
Everywhere she looked was full, except for Harry and Ron's compartment, and a compartment with just one girl in it.
"Hello!" Niki said, entering the compartment with the girl. "My name's Niki. What's yours?"
The girl looked up and smiled, revealing rather large front teeth. "My name's Hermione Granger. And you're Nicole Potter, aren't you?"
"Yes, I am." Niki turned red. "Please call me Niki, by the way."
"Okay, Niki." Hermione smiled again. "Come in and sit down."
Niki sat down next to Hermione.
"What's that your reading?" she asked, looking over Hermione's shoulder at the book.
"Oh, it's nothing." Hermione said, hastily trying to put the book away, but Niki quickly snatched it out of her hands and looked at the cover.
"Oh, I love this book!" she exclaimed.
"You do?" Hermione asked, surprised.
"Yeah! The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts?" Niki asked. "It's one of my favorites!"
"Most people I've talked to found it extremely boring." Hermione said.
"Well, I may highly enjoy pranking and acting immature, but I also really like reading. I've read all the course books and learned them by heart."
"So have I!" Hermione looked delighted. "Nobody at my other school would talk to me because they thought I was weird."
"Well, I don't." Niki said. "Dadfoot is absolutely horrified that I enjoy studying, but Moomy is rather proud."
"Moomy and Dadfoot?" Hermione asked.
"Oh, my guardians." Niki said. "Sirius Black and Remus Lupin."
"Oh, yes." Hermione smiled again. "You probably have a head start on me in school."
"Why would that be?" Niki asked, startled.
"Well, you've grown up with Sirius Black and Remus Lupin." Hermione explained. "Wizards. I didn't even know I was a witch until about a month ago. My parents are Muggles, you see."
"Well, that doesn't mean I'll have a head start." Niki said. "In fact, I think you may be better than me."
Hermione blushed, and quickly changed the subject.
Idle chatter, along with some annoying of a certain Ronald Weasley, filled the time of the train ride, and soon, the Hogwarts Express was pulling into Hogsmeade Station.
