It was my mistake to assume everyone in this school knew I didn't talk. All day today Micheal would not leave me alone. When I got out of my first class today he found me and said hi. Then he walked me to my next class, he talked on and on. Luckily there wasn't much space for me to say anything. Honestly I probably wasn't listening to half the things he said.
At lunch he sat with me and asked questions, but I sat quietly enjoying the lunch I made for myself. That's when he reached across my lap with his fork and stole a piece of chicken from my plate, I looked at him like he was crazy as he took a bite of the chicken.
"Did you make this?" he asked like it was no big deal. "It's really good, it could use a little hot sauce, but it's good regardless." He said. "You can't just take people's food." I said, I swear if murder wasn't illegal, this boy would lay cold and still on the ground. "So, you can speak." he said smiling at me. I rolled my eyes and turned back to my lunch. After about five minutes of silence he spoke again.
"So what's the deal with you, anyway?" he asked his voice a lot more serious. I looked around, we were sitting in an outside area that the school building surrounded. "What do you mean?" I said when I saw no one was around. "Why don't you talk to anyone?" he asked.
"Because I have nothing to say." I said simply, he raised an eyebrow at me. "I don't believe that. You seem like you have a lot to say." I shook my head but said nothing, proving my point. "Okay fine then." He said letting it go. "You make your own lunch. Do you not like the school lunch?" he asked and I shook my head. "More or less." I said
"What do you mean?" he asked, his voice was still serious. "Not exactly the food I don't like." I suggested. "Let me guess, the people?" he said, I nodded slowly. "I can understand that." he said. "But why not go get lunch then come out here." he said clearly not understanding. "Because if I waste the time to go into the lunchroom I'll lose my spot." I said looking around seeing a few students come from the direction of the cafeteria. "Good point, this is a nice spot."
I recognized one of the girls, she was the one from yesterday. She saw me then whispered into another girl's ear, they both giggled still looking this way. "Take a picture, it'll last longer." Micheal called out, I looked at him surprised. Both girls looked at him, then walked away whispering to each other. "Why did you do that?" I asked.
"What?" he said and I looked at him getting a little irritated. "Don't do that. You don't need to get involved with my problems." I said plainly, he raised his arms in defense. "If you say so." he replied, he stood up and waved me off. I clenched my teeth as he walked away. Did I make him upset? Why did I even care if I did, I've been trying to get rid of him all day. Still I felt bad, I'd be sure to apologize later, when I saw him.
Only I didn't.
