When Pitch woke up after Lily did a complicated spell to take the water out her lungs, it was sort of funny.
"What the hell are you doing?!" she had yelled. When we explained that we'd helped her, she got pretty mad.
"Helped me? I wanted to drown! I wanted to end this pain! Sure, I was pissed out of my mind, thanks to firewhiskey, but I still wanted it!" she had screeched. I had to put a Full Body Bind spell on her, so she wouldn't injure anyone. When we put Pitch down in the Hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey made us both drink Pepper-Up potion.
"Swimming in this weather... no wonder this place is so full... not enough Pepper-Up for frozen students," Madam Pomfrey muttered, sounding pretty annoyed.
"Sorry, Madam Pomfrey, please don't tell Professor Dumbledore," I begged.
"Tell me what, Mr. Lupin?" came Dumbledore's voice, and I winced.
"These two thought it would be fun to swim in the Black Lake with nothing on. Just because the grindylows are deeper in the lake because of winter, doesn't mean they can just dive on in! Mr Lupin was hypothermic, and Miss Pitch was bordering on frostbite. Honestly, Albus, Severus cannot brew Pepper-Up potion fast enough for all the freezing students I get nowadays!" Madam Pomfrey ranted.
"Now, Mr Lupin, I always thought you were the responsible one out of your little group of friends," Dumbledore scolded, but I saw the amused twinkle in his eyes. I apologised, and he turned to Pitch, whose lips were still blue.
"And Miss Pitch, I knew you were reckless, yet this still surprises me. I thought you were more careful than that," he said.
"Obviously not," Pitch mumbled.
"Your parents would be disappointed," Dumbledore added. This seemed to strike a nerve with her.
"Well old man, you're too late. They're already disappointed in me. WAY MORE than disappointed with me! I don't even live with them! So don't get your hopes too high, because they already fucking hate me," she said loudly. Dumbledore looked slightly angry.
"I would highly appreciate it if you didn't use such vulgar language in my presence, Miss Pitch," he said sternly.
"Yeah, and I would highly appreciate it if you didn't allow vile animals like Sirius Black into the school, but it's not going to happen," Pitch replied glumly. Madam Pomfrey looked horrified.
"Watch your attitude when talking to the Headmaster!" she exclaimed. Pitch glared at her.
"Fuck you, and fuck the Headmaster!" she yelled at Madam Pomfrey and Professor Dumbledore, before storming out of the hospital wing in her pajamas, which Madam Pomfrey had Summoned earlier. We all stared after her with wide eyes.
"Well, wasn't that something!" I exclaimed, smiling awkwardly.
I stormed out of the hospital wing, not caring if people saw me in my pajamas, but the halls were deserted, which was a shame. I really wanted to punch the hell out of someone. Luckily for me, the person that brought out my inner serial killer came walking down the same hallway.
"Pitch! I've been looking for ya! How come you aren't a witch-cicle?" Black slurred. I smelled the firewhisky on his breath as I walked closer to him. He opened his arms wide like I was coming to hug him, but as soon as I was close enough, I kicked him in the groin.
"What the...?" he groaned, doubling over. I grabbed his ear and pulled his face close to mine.
"You are an insensitive prick with no capability of feeling love, guilt or remorse. You're no better than a Death-Eater.Artemis was right, guys like you don't change," I said softly, my words venomous. I saw the hurt in his hazy eyes, but I felt nothing.
"Go to hell, Sirius Black," I added at a normal volume, letting his ear go. I headed to the Nook of Need, and when I got there, I made the werewolf, mouse and doe- the animals representing my friends- go away, and instructed my dog to do the same once I was inside. Unknown to anyone else, behind the bookshelf was a secret passage to a small room, where I had set up a small hiding place. I usually went there when my hidden emotions caught up with me. Like now.
I magically moved the bookshelf back over the hole once I was inside, and crawled into the hiding spot. Silent tears rolled down my face, and in the short amount of time I was in there, I'd made up my mind. I was done here, no matter what Lily and them do, I will not be here for long. And they can take it however they want.
I sat in the hiding spot for hours, mulling over a couple of words my father said to me once, back when he still liked me.
"Emotions are weakness, Obsidian, and people will use weakness against you. Don't let people know what you're feeling," he had said.
"Emotions are weakness, emotions are weakness, emotions are weakness," I mumbled over and over, the tears slowly stopping and my face changing into a neutral expression. I crawled out of my hole, moving the bookshelf as I needed to, and glanced at the clock. Dinner time. I used my wand, which Remus had given me once he had taken off the Full Body Bind curse he'd put on me, to transfigure my pajamas into muggle clothing and headed down to the hall.
"Pitch! You're okay! We panicked because we couldn't get into the Nook," Lily said, giving me a hug. I didn't return it. Artemis and Rita hugged me next, but I just let my arms hang limply at my sides.
"Are you alright?" Artemis asked, looking confused.
"I'm fine," I replied in a monotone, sitting own and stuffing my face full of food. Once I'd had my fill, I excused myself and ran to the nearest bathroom. After casting a Silencing charm on the cubicle I was in, I stuck my finger down my throat and threw up. I repeated the process over and over, until nothing more could come out. I flushed the toilet, removed the Silencing charm and went to wash my hands and face. Someone cleared their throat behind me, and I turned to see Lily.
"What's wrong? And don't say you're fine, because you are not," she stated.
"Nothing is wrong. I've just decided that I'm going through with my prank war idea. That's all," I lied, walking away. Well, I hadn't lied about the prank war... that I am going to do.
"Hey, Arty! You and I are going rogue!" I called to my best friend. She grinned, and walked up to me.
"I told you that code would come in handy," she said. I laughed.
"Come on. Lets go prank some Marauders," I told her, and we set off to the Nook to plan.
