The Horror You Inspire

The days changed like you wouldn't believe. When he was here, the grass was green, the flowers were pink, & the night was so bright. Life had sunshine & smiles, and all those things us pessimist's despise. Home wasn't like it used to be, because a house was never home, & he was never really planted like the flowers that lead up to their house. He was home, and anywhere they went, as long as they were together, they were home. There is, in fact, no place like it. After he died, everything suddenly lost taste, like he had taken it with him. So, she had to become friendly with the darkness and all sorts of scum, like the sewer rats & the Venus fly traps that she thought sometimes talked to her. She had become comfortably numb. All the animals spoke highly of him, and they only really fear the Seventh Son, his offspring. It wasn't quite prophecy, but his rage & evil were predicted not long ago; regardless, she ignored it for as long as she could, because ignorance is bliss, right?

23. Chapter 22

Amelie, in her last few moments of life, finally put a use to the concealed carry licence she had, and tried to defend herself by shooting Mitchell, but he was able to get the gun from her, but not before she also hit him in the heart.

Mitchell and Amelie fell in a heap by each other, and Mitchell wrestled the gun out of Amelie's slowly fading hands.

Maybelyn rushed to her side in a quick moment without any thought, but she was already gone.

Even though she dreaded her son, Maybelyn still went to be with him in his last moments.

"Why did it have to end like this? Why were you like this? What did I do wrong?" Maybelyn asks.

"It had to be like this because sometimes that's how life goes. You did so many things wrong, and I'm about to die so we're not going to talk about it. Tell god that he made a mistake when he made me and it would be a mistake to reincarnate me" Mitchell says.

"God doesn't make mistakes" Maybelyn insists.

"Then who do you blame me on?
Who do you blame this on?" Mitchell asks, and before Maybelyn can ask "blame what on?" She feels a piercing volume in her ears and a really cold spot in her chest, and looks to see blood, pouring out of her chest.

Maybelyn looks back to see Mitchell and all he says is "I go down, so do you."

Maybelyn finds Amelie's phone and dials 911, but before she can say anything her eyes grow dark and the last thing she sees is the dead flowers that are hanging upside down from the shelf in her office, looking peacefully at rest, and that's where she wants to be.
