The Edge

Heather Meza was perfect. She had a perfect family, perfect friends, a perfect house, a perfect life.
She was known for her brains and beauty, and her long, brunette hair, sharp blue eyes, and slim figure never hesitated to turn the heads of male or female.
But Heather Meza wasn't happy.
Soon, she met Nathan at a very unexpected time and location. Her heart beats faster when she's around him, and she has never felt this way about anyone before.
What is this feeling she has?

7. Chapter 7

"Wow," Came the familiar boy's voice, "That was dramatic. It would make a great movie." He laughed, and I could feel his head move to look down at me. "Are you okay?"

I felt like bawling my eyes out. But instead, I just said, "Not... Not really."

He laughed again. His laugh- it seemed to lift the air, and float, making me happy. It was also contagious, unfortunately.

I laughed too. "Sorry for being such a wimp."

"Wimp? You were amazing... Sorry, I don't know your name."

"Me?" I looked up and pushed myself away from his chest, "I'm Heather."

"Nathan." He looked at me and flashed his pearly white teeth.

He had twinkly brown eyes and tanned skin. His brown hair looked soft and silky, but it was full of dust and splinters. He had a bleeding lip, and a swollen cheek.

"Heather." He said quietly, and nodded.

My heart skipped a beat. For a second, I forgot about everything that had just happened. I forgot about home, getting put here in the first place, everything.

"Nathan," I laughed mockingly.

"Wow. Um. Er. Yeah." He coughed, and turned away from me, flushing.

I realized how weird I was acting, staring at him like a physco, and turned away too, feeling my own cheeks turn red.

"Er. We have to get out of here, remember?" He laughed.

I had forgotten I was in a life-threatening dangerous place!

"Do you know how to get out?" I asked.

"Erm..." He looked around. "No. But I'm sure we can find a way."

He stood up, and offered me his hand to help me up. Usually at school I would refuse to take a boy's hand. But Nathan was different. I used his full arm to help myself up because my feet ached and my shins were bleeding.

"Come on, Heather. Let's get out."
