"How do you even know Alex?".
"I know his ex".
I laughed a little and nodded.
He smiled big "I would never expect a girl like you to be friends with her" he said this not looking at me but at the people below us.
"What is that suppose to mean?" I asked defensively, "I'm not pretty enough? Or fun enough ? Or what?!".
"What the hell is so funny?!".
"Rebecca would've never punched that guy in the face..she would've let him talk to her like she was worth nothing. But you did. You stood up for yourself. Your strong, bold, beautiful, smart" he said still not looking at me.
I couldn't help but notice him call me beautiful.
"Gorgeous" he finally turned to look at me.
I felt that he might kiss me . I felt my throat close and my heart beat fast.
He stared at me , not my body but my eyes then made his way down to my lips and starred at them. And he slowly came closer to me.
"Eh-uh w-what time is it" I asked looking down. I could see the disappointment in his face. He pulled his phone out and the light hurt his eyes.
"It's three-forty five".
"Uh then I should get home" I said as I stood up.
"I'll walk you".
I nodded and we went down the ladder and walked to the side of the beach.
"Did you just move here?".
I thought about lying but decided I wouldn't.
"I don't live here.. My arenas sent me here and I have no idea why".
"Sent you here?" I nodded.
"With who?" He asked seeming confused.
"With my aunt...I'm actually trying to figure out why they sent me here".
"Okay okay, a mystery!" He said loudly pointing up his pointing finger.
I laughed "'I guess yeah...if you want you can help" I said looking up at him because he was a bit taller than me.
"Well I am known to be an amazing detective " he laughed.
"I can tell!" I said sarcastically.
He picked up a handful of sand and said "sand you not". He laughed at his own joke which was making me laugh.
So I picked up a sea shell and said " I shell not".
He laughed so much his face turned a bit red.
I walked over to the water and took my shoes and socks off. I dug my feet in the sand and let the waves go over my feet. I could see the sunset starting to come out and he came beside me and rolled up the bottom of his jeans and put his feet next to mine.
"When I was little me and my momma would wake up at four thirty to watch the sunset. It was right after my father left us" I said looking at my feet.
He said nothing but looked over at me.
"We don't do it anymore... Now my mom hardly gets up till around one in the afternoon".
He grabbed my hand and squeezed it. It was like a sign telling me he was here, next to me and that I wasn't alone. I squeezed it back and we stood there just holding hands for a while.
I finally let go and we continued walking. Finally we saw the house and I stood by my window, waiting for the goodbyes. We stood silent for a while, while he looked down at his feet.
And there we were, the air warm with the color of orange floating around by the sunset. I had my shoes in one hand and I could feel the sand between my toes. My heart started to beat quickly again and felt like there was something in my throat. I could feel his presence like it was peaceful and loving. He was so close I could smell his scent of faint cologne and mint. He looked up at me and smiled so warmly.
"Goodnight Angelina" he finally said.
And that was it. He walked away without looking back. I exhaled loudly and hopped through my window and into my room, just to find my aunt standing there with crossed arms waiting for me.
