Foreign Exchange [h.s.]

"This isn't America anymore, my dear, this here is England. You're on my territory now, and what I say goes, is that understood?" He asks me as he grips onto my chin forcing me to stare at him. I frown, "I was sent over here to hide, not to obey you." I spit back at him and he narrows his eyes at me. "But you were placed into my care, and while you are under my roof, you will follow my orders. I could easily give away your location and you would be dead within a matter of hours. So I'd watch that pretty mouth of yours when you're around me."

"Come back here!"

Don't stop running. No matter how tired you get, keep pushing yourself to go farther and faster. You can and will not let them catch you.

"You're only making this harder on yourself!"

Don't give in. Don't stop at their words and don't stop from your legs and lungs hurting, you must continue on.

"If you turn yourself in right now, your sentence will be shortened!"

Lies. They only speak lies. They don't mean that, they only want you to stop so they can win; don't let them win.

You must win. You will win.

"Don't make us shoot you!"

Keep going, you're almost there. Just a little bit farther, you can do this.

"We're warning you here! If you don't surrender, we'll open fire and force you to!"

"Never! I shall never surrender myself to you!" I manage to scream out to them, pushing aside the burning of my lungs as I had just used up more air to speak to them. I take another turn down the alleyway, pushing myself to go faster as I have almost arrived at my destination. My feet lead me down another alley and I quickly press myself up against the wall, shutting my eyes and waiting for them to run past me. Their shouts come by quickly and I hold my breath, hoping that they would not hear me lurking in the shadows.

"Which way did the little bitch go?!" One shrieks as a crack of thunder is heard above. "I swear, if we can't catch her, the deputy is going to have all of our badges on his desk come Monday morning." Serves you right, you bastards.

"She came this way, I am sure of it."

"She couldn't have gone too far from here, we were right behind her."

"Split up. This half goes down that way, the other half go down this alley here to my left. The more ground we cover, the faster we are sure to find her and finally put her behind bars where she belongs."

I took this as my cue to start moving away as they were about to search the alley I was in. I quietly sneaked away and managed to exit the small alley and head to the side door on the building close to me. My hand softly rapped against the metal a couple times, stepping back to wait for it to open so they would let me in before the rain started to pour down.

The door swung open revealing a tall blonde woman.

"Liberty?" She asks and I nod, acknowledging that it is me.

The shouts of the officers are heard in the distance and my eyes widen as I hear them draw closer and closer. She then motions for me to come inside and I don't hesitate a moment as I practically run inside. The door closes behind me, deafening out the shouts of the police, and she moves in front of me.

"Follow me." She says before she starts to walk forward and I trail right after her, wanting to be far away from that door. We walk down a few hallways in silence, my ragged breathing the only thing filling the silent air. My legs feel like jelly from all the running I had just done and my lungs were literally on fire at this point, the burning being most intense when I inhaled. We finally came upon a door and she knocked on it and a few seconds later it swings open to reveal a man. He looks from the woman and then over to me before he steps aside and lets us into the room.

"Welcome, Liberty." He says to me as I pass him and all I can do is nod.

There were several people sitting around a table as we walked into the room, and once we were standing right in front of them, they motioned for the two of us to sit down.

"Welcome, Liberty, to the FHS. I am Jennifer, the head of this organization." The one sitting at the head of the table said to me, "We all are aware that you are currently on the run from the police, is that correct?"

"Yes." I mumble softly. "May I ask what does FHS stand for?" I question.

"Fugitive Hiding System." She says to me.

"And what do you guys technically do?"

"We locate fugitives who are currently on the run and we send them to a different country under the care of someone who has some idea of what we do. That way they can roam around freely and live normally instead of being in a cold jail cell."

"So like a foreign exchange?"

"If you would like to think of it in that way, then yes." She softly smiles at me but I don't return the favor. It's silent for a few minutes and that sends an unsettling feeling throughout my body.

"What's going to happen to me?" I then ask, breaking the silence.

She laughs, "We're going to send you into hiding in a different country."

I remain silent at this. I was to leave America to go and hide in some strange land.

"What country are you sending me to?"

England. England? I was to stay in England?

"How long am I to stay there?"

"There really isn't a set time span as some cases take longer than others so I suppose for as long as needed. At the least six months probably. We'll contact you when it is safe for you to come back over here."

I nod and press my lips into a thin line.

"But, while you are over there, we need you to do something for us."

"What do you want me to do?"

"We need you to find England's most notorious criminal." She says with a smile.

"Why?" I meekly ask.

"Because, we need for you to put an end to his reign."

"Why me though? Can't you get the police over there to find him?"

"That's the problem. They can't find him, they don't even know what his name is."

"Then how the hell am I supposed to find him then?" I question as I raise my eyebrows.

"You are a criminal. He is a criminal. You both think similarly. You have more of a lead than the cops would ever have. You would know where he or she could possibly be hiding, or where they might strike next. You have as much of an instinct as they do, so you would be able to pinpoint them faster than they would be able to."

"Oh." I mumble.

"And you'll want to find them if you want to remain out of jail." She says.

"What do you mean by that?" I ask.

"If you want to stay out of jail, you need to find them, and within six months. If you don't find them by then, we'll find you and come get you ourselves and put you behind bars. Even if you are still on the news as most wanted, we'll bring you back."

"So I don't have a choice then. I have to do this."

"Correct. It's a win win for the both of us. You get to remain free and we get the honor of putting him behind bars." She smiles down at me.

"When do I leave then?" I ask.

"Midnight my dear, so you don't have much time to get to the airport." She stands up and motions for someone to come into the room, "Herald here, will drive you and Susan to the airport." An elderly gentleman smiles at me and tips his hat.

"Wait, what about my stuff? And who in the hell am I staying with?" I say as I am pulled up from my chair and ushered towards the door.

"Your host will have everything you need at the house you are to stay in. Susan will explain to you the entire procedure on the way to the airport as we don't have enough time to explain it to you right here. You don't want to be late for your flight, for your freedom." She says to me just as we reach the door, "Oh and your host's name is Harry Styles, a quaint young lad who has worked with us in the past. You'll be in good hands, trust me."

Harry Styles. I was to live with a man named Harry Styles. A complete stranger to me. This guy was to watch over me while I was in hiding for who knows how long while the police over here searched for me.

"Good luck, Liberty. We'll be sure to stay in contact with you." She waves to me as the door shuts, hiding us away from the group of people as well as starting the clock for finding this criminal. I narrow my eyes, a boost of confidence pumping through my veins; I will find this bastard, and I will bring him down, my freedom is riding on it.
