He drove us home, getting out of the car he ran around and put his hands over my eyes.
“What are you doing?” I yelped.
“It’s a surprise.” He whispered in my ear. We walked for about five minutes until he took his hands away. We stood in a field of fireflies. “I thought you would like to catch some, just like we did when we were younger.” He smiled.
I smiled, “Really!” I asked.
He grabbed some jars from a box he had sitting out there. “Let’s catch some fireflies.”
We looked like 10 year olds trying to catch them, I got about 10 in my jar and Matt got the same.
We both went inside the kitchen and heated up some pizza from last night, after that we went to the backyard and laid in the grass staring up at the stars.
“This is the best birthday ever. Thank you.” I whispered.
“It really was the best day.” He agreed. “I have to tell you something.”
I looked over at him. “What?”
He stayed silent, “I like you.”
“I like you too.” I said.
He propped himself up on his elbow facing me, “No I like you. I want to be with you. I want to kiss you. I want to call you mine. I want all of you.”
I was stunned, “Umm” I had no idea what to say.
“Listen, we can pretend this whole thing never happened.” He started to get up, but I grabbed his hand.
“I like you too.” I whispered.
He bent down and brushed his lips against my cheek, which made my whole body tremble. "If you want me to stop, tell me now," he whispered. He traced the line of my cheekbone. "Or now." His lips were against mine. "Or—" But I had reached up and pulled him down to me, and the rest of his words were lost against my mouth. He kissed me gently, carefully, but it wasn’t gentleness I wanted, not now, not after what he just said, and I knotted my fists in his shirt, pulling him harder against me. He groaned softly, low in his throat, and then his arms circled me, gathering me against him, and we rolled over on the grass, tangled together, still kissing.
He stopped kissing me and looked at me with his big blue eyes. “How far do you want this to go? Because I am ready, if you aren’t I-”
I cut him off with a kiss. Then looked at him, “I’m ready.”
He smiled, standing up. I grabbed his hand pulling him into my house, “Go lock the doors.” I said breathlessly.
He let go of my hand and ran to lock the doors, meanwhile I ran to my mom’s bathroom to grab protection from under her sink. I went into my room and lit candles. Once he arrived in my room, he locked the door. I walked over to him and pulled his head down to me, kissing him with all the power that I had. He picked me up walked over to the bed where he laid us down. He tasted deeper, holding himself over me, and suddenly he was everywhere; his knee trapping my leg, his lips grazing warm, rough, sensuous. He splayed his hand at the small of my back, holding me tightly, driving me to sink my fingers deeper into him, clinging to him as if letting go would mean losing part of myself. I started unbuttoning his shirt and he did the same, soon it was just underwear separating us. We both stood up on either side on the bed. We both took them off at the same time. He put on the protection and walked over to me.
“Are you sure?” He whispered barely audible.
“Okay,” He closed the remaining space with a kiss which deepened with every second. He laid us on the bed, under the covers. He stopped kissing me, slowly he entered me, I had to bite into his shoulder to keep from crying out. His pace quickened, and with the pain came pleasure. Soon he collapsed on top of me, both of us hitting our highs. After a couple moments he rolled to the side of the bed and went to the bathroom to dispose of the garbage. After he was done, I went in to wash myself up. I went back into the room and grabbed an oversized shirt and crawled back into bed with Matt.
“That was amazing.” Matt said.
I smiled, “It really was.” I could feel the pain setting in. I laid my head on his chest and put my arm across his stomach.
“Goodnight my love.”
“Goodnight.” I can’t remember the last time I slept that soundly.
I woke up the next morning to a heavy arm slung across my midsection. I breathed in loudly, and the arm tightened.
“Good morning.” Matt said squeezing me.
I flipped over so I was facing him. “Good morning.” I kissed him quickly, then went to brush my teeth. Looking myself in the mirror I saw a whole different person. My hair was a mess. My lips were swollen. And I held myself different, I seemed more confident. I found Matt in the kitchen, still in nothing but his boxers. He has a great body. He too seemed to carry himself differently.
“Waffles?” He asked me.
“Sounds great.” I grabbed the dry mix, and Matt grabbed the ones from the fridge.
After the food was made we sat at the table together. “So, does this mean you will be my girlfriend?” He asked bringing his plate to the dishwasher.
I stood up, following his lead.“I would love to.” I smiled. “Are you sure you want to? We have been friends for how long. This could ruin it.”
He walked towards me, “Who knows. Maybe we were made for each other.” He said seductively. He leaned down and kissed me. He picked me up and sat me on the countertop, continuing to kiss me with such passion. We heard a sound in the driveway. Instantly we stopped kissing, and I ran to the door, it was my mom.
“Go get your clothes on. Get them on in the bathroom.” I said quietly.
“Why?” He asked.
“My mom is here.” I pushed him up the stairs.
“Shit.” He ran to my room and retrieved his clothes. Then closed the bathroom door behind him.
Meanwhile I ran to my room to put on a pair of pants. I ran downstairs and went into the kitchen, pacing. Matt ran in the kitchen in the same clothes as yesterday, but he still looked great. My mom entered the house and we both walked into the living room.
I ran to give her a hug, “Hey.”
She hugged me back tight, “Oh hunny, i’m so sorry I missed your birthday. All the flights were delayed. Do you forgive me?”
I let go of her, “Yeah, I had a great time, Matt and I hung out.” I explained.
She smiled at him, not noticing until then that he was there, “That’s great. Were you two going somewhere today?” She asked.
I looked at Matt, telling him it was his turn to answer, “Yeah, we were going to the beach.”
“Well, you two have fun with that. I’m going to unpack and sleep.” She hauled herself and her luggage upstairs to her room, closing the door.
