It had been a few days since I had last seen Katherine. The days were filled with nothing but silence. I hadn’t heard from Sebastian, and Alex still wasn’t talking to me. My days were boring and I never had anything useful to do. We were running on the third day of no human interaction and I was losing my mind. I had to do something. Leaving the house, I plan to walk down to the garage, just to check on the Impala. Knowing Alex, he probably trashed it. Although it was his car, but I would have done that just to get back at him.
Eventually, I make it to the garage and quickly pull out the keys, unlocking the door. I step inside looking around to spot my car. Seeing it still sitting in the corner, I sigh in relief and walk over to look at it. I loved this car. I had never driven it. I hadn’t ever even been inside of it, but I still loved it. It was my dream car after all. The garage is silent for a while, until that is interrupted by the opening of the front door. Turning in place, I see a small girl slip through.
“Luna!” she squeals, skipping up to me.
Widening my eyes, I look down at her in confusion.
“Are you going to go help set up Alpha’s birthday party?” she asks, tugging my hand in the direction of the door.
“Woah, woah, sweetie. What’s this about?” I mumble, pulling her to a stop.
“It’s Alpha’s birthday!” she cheers, “My mommy told me to come get you!”
A scream from outside breaks me from my thoughts.
“ALLISON!” a panicked voice screams.
“Where did she go?” a male voice questions.
“I don’t know. She was here one second and then I turned around to pick up some party supplies and next thing I
know she’s gone.” The woman cries.
“We’ll find her.” The voice vows.
I look down at the little girl, “Are you Allison?”
She nods happily, “That was my mommy.”
“Okay, sweetie. Let’s get you out there.” I suggest, picking her up and placing her on my hip.
“ALLISON!” we hear again.
“Mommy, I’m right here!” she giggles, throwing up her hands as we step outside.
“Oh, baby!” the woman exclaims, rushing towards us.
I smile as she takes the little girl into her arms and kisses the top of her head.
“Don’t you ever do that to mommy again.” The woman whispers, hugging the little girl close.
Looking over at me, her eyes widen and she bows her head.
“Luna. I’m so sorry! Was she bothering you?” she rambles, continuously apologizing.
“Not at all. She asked me to help with party preparations.” I shrug with a smile.
She sighs, kneeling down to her daughter’s level.
“Allison, I told you not to do that. We don’t bother the Luna, okay? Alpha’s orders, remember that.” She orders
softly, brushing the little girl’s hair back.
“It’s completely okay.” I said, “I don’t mind helping.”
The woman looks over at me with hesitation.
“We aren’t supposed to bother you. Alpha’s orders.” She replies softly, bowing her head again.
“Nonsense. You aren’t bothering me.” I wave my hand, “I don’t mind helping at all.”
“Oh, well okay then. You can come blow some balloons up.” She grins, standing to her full height.
I nod, “Sounds like a plan.”
She sticks out her hand, “I’m Joanne.”
“Claire.” I smile, taking her hand.
“It’s wonderful to meet you!” she exclaims, her expression morphing into one of excitement.
“You too,” I pause, “You look really familiar.”
“Well,” she shrugs as she starts to walk, “I do look a lot like my brother.”
My mouth drops open, “You’re Alex’s sister.”
“Unfortunately.” She sighs, “I never did get along with my brother’s. Any of them.”
“How many did you have?” I ask, furrowing my eyebrows.
“Sixteen.” She replies with a laugh, “I’m only a step sibling.”
“Step sibling? So your father….” I trail off.
“Lost his mate. Originally. Which is where Alex, Sebastian, and their brother Adam come in. Then the trail of whores
that he left behind added a couple more brothers and then his…..Second chance mate, if you’d even call it that, had me.” she explains.
“Are all of you part of Westwood pack?” I wonder.
“No. Only Alex, Sebastian, and I. Adam is the Alpha of a neighboring pack and everybody else is dead.” She adds.
My eyes widen, "Dead?"
"That, my friend, is a story for another day." she chuckles.
Nodding my head, I bite my bottom lip.
“So, here we are.” She says, turning into a tent near the forest line.
Walking over to a table, she gestures to the box of balloons.
“We need these blown up. You don’t have to do the whole box. Just do as much as you can.” She nods, before walking out of the tent.
Sighing I step up to the table and pull out a blue balloon. Bringing it to my lips, I find myself leaning against the table and looking outside. For a while, nothing interesting happens and I am able to blow up a good majority of the balloons. Looking away from the calm and peaceful outside, I grab another balloon and place it to my lips. Once I look back over at the doorway, it seems like all the breath that was in my lungs was gone. He was here.
“You’re helping?” Alex snaps, stalking into the small tent.
His head barely cleared the top of the tent and he still had to bend his neck slightly. I nod my head, taking the
balloon from my lips and holding it at my side.
“I thought I told them to leave you alone.” He spits, turning to walk away.
“I volunteered.” I say, biting my lip.
Turning his head back to look at me he chuckles, “Did you now?”
I nod my head again and lean back against the table. He steps closer to me, reaching an arm behind me. Our faces are inches apart and for a second I fear he will kiss me, but then he pulls away, balloon in hand. Gulping, I try to calm my racing heart and stop my hands from visibly shaking. This was the first time that I had seen him in weeks. He looked handsome, as always. I felt incredibly attracted to him. I didn’t know if it was just the mate pull or if something had seriously changed inside me. Shaking the thoughts from my mind, I watch as he places the balloon to his lips and blows into it. I can’t take my eyes from his mouth. The way his lips wrap around the balloon in an almost sensual way is too much. He is torturing me, playing with me. I cannot forget the feeling of how they felt against mine. Plump and soft, with a slight chapped texture. He is still standing close. As he moves the balloon away from his face, a smirk appears across his lips and I can feel his breath on my face. He wraps the end of the balloon around his finger and quickly ties it. Placing it in the box beside me, he turns back to me with the smirk still playing on his face.
“You're nervous. Aren't you?” he teases, leaning his face closer to mine.
I don’t answer as I swallow harshly.
“Hmm,” he hums, “Cat got your tongue? Or should I say wolf?”
I gulp again, turning my head away from him. Looking over his broad shoulder, I see Stephanie standing in the entry way, glaring at me harshly.
“Your wife is watching.” I croak.
He turns back to the door and throws her a wink.
“Get away from me.” I grumble, pushing at his hands.
Surprisingly, he steps back, his eyes falling dark momentarily. Stephanie turns from the tent and storms away, causing me to nearly lose my composure.
“So you’re coming tonight then?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
I hesitantly nod my head.
“Good.” He cocks his head, “Then you’ll get to see my beautiful wife on my arm.”
I feel my eyes sting slightly and I try to contain my anger.
“Great.” I spit, gritting my teeth, “And you’ll get to meet my boyfriend.”
His smirk drops from his face and his eyes turn cold.
“Boyfriend?” he growls.
A smile slips onto my face as I nod my head.
“I think you might know him…”I trail off, looking at my nails, “His name’s Sebastian.”
His eyes turn dark.
“Sebastian is your….boyfriend?” he spats.
“Yes.” I confirm, “And you’re not going to do anything to him.”
“You don’t get to decide that.” He spits, backing towards the entrance.
“Actually I do. Because if you even think about laying a hand on him, you can kiss me goodbye.” I smirk.
“I’ll just reject your rejection again. You can’t reject me.” He growls lowly.
I cock my head to the side, “Who said anything about rejecting you? I’m not stupid, Alpha.”
“Alex.” He booms, “You call me Alex.”
“Alpha, I don’t really think that, that’s our biggest concern right now, is it? Because if I remember correctly, you need
me alive in order for you to rule.” I grin, biting my bottom lip.
“You wouldn’t dare.” He roars, narrowing his eyes at me.
“Try me.” I smirk devilishly.
His eyes are deep pits of darkness, which would normally cause me to shake in my boots.
“You try anything. Consider yourself already dead. I will make your life hell.” He vows, baring his teeth at me.
“Down doggy.” I smirk, holding up my hands and backing away, “Can’t you take a joke?”
He sends me a snarl, his eyes flashing yellow momentarily. I continue to back away until I am nearly completely out
of the tent.
“See you at the party tonight.” I wink, before turning and walking in the direction of Sebastian’s den.
Walking up to the den, I can already hear the rustling inside. Sighing deeply and trying to calm my racing nerves, I raise my fist and lightly knock on the door. The shuffling of feet gets louder and the door swings open. Sebastian raises an eyebrow at me.
“Do you want to go on a date with me?” I blurt.
“Woah…..Claire…” he trails off, holding up his hands, “I don’t think….”
“Not an actual date.” I roll my eyes, “Its Alex’s birthday party tonight.”
“I don’t know, Claire….I’ve been getting close to Kath recently and I really don’t want to ruin that.” He breathes,
rubbing the back of his neck.
“She knows we’re just friends.” I shrug.
“Claire…..I don’t know…” he mumbles.
“Please, Sebastian…” I beg, “Please.”
He lets out a long sigh, rubbing a hand over his face.
“Fine.” He huffs, “But we aren’t doing anything.”
“Okay. I didn’t plan on it anyway. I just want to make him jealous.”
“You know, Claire, I used to think that was something that be good for him and you, but now, I don’t even know. I’m
not sure if that’s what’s best for you guys….” He looks down.
“Seriously, Seb?” I spit, “You’re backing out now?”
“I’m not, Claire. I just don’t want to hurt your relationship with him anymore than he already has….” He mumbles, pulling a hand through his hair.
“But we’re not hurting it, Sebastian! If anything we’re making it stronger! I need to know that he cares.” I protest, stepping towards him.
He sighs deeply, looking down at me, “Okay. Fine, we’ll do it.”
A smile breaks onto my face and excitement stirs in my abdomen.
“Thank you!” I shout, wrapping my arms around his neck.
He hugs me back, before stepping away from me.
“When should I be ready?” he huffs.
“Six.” I say, turning around and skipping back home.
