12. Know Them Better

“That is a duck,” I point at the animal as it waddles across the floor. “Chandler, you see this bird in your apartment, right?”

“He’s meant to be here,” Chandler pats the ducks head. “Our chick is now a rooster, too.”

“That is not legal,” I place my backpack onto a barstool. “Why not a dog?”

          “It’s a long story.”

The bedroom door on the left opens and Joey walks out.

“Hi Joey,” I smile as I hop onto the free barstool.

“Hey Ash,” Joey smiles. “How’s work?”

“Wonderful. I love my co-workers, and I’m writing a novel of sorts when I can. Everyone says that I’m the hardest worker, so I think I may be getting a promotion.”

“That’s awesome,” Joey walks over to me, encasing me in a hug.

I giggle, “Thank you. I’d love to talk about it more, but my brother has to tell me about Kathy.”

Joey releases me and walks over to get some food out of the fridge. “Some other time then.”

“Okay Chandler,” I look at my brother lounging on a recliner. “Kathy?”

“She’s it, Ash,” Chandler smiles. “I can feel it.”

I nod a few times, “If that’s true, I need to meet her.”

          “I can set that up.”

“Hey, are you going to watch us beat Monica and Rachel at some know them game,” Joey stands next to me with a sub in his hands.

          “Today? I can,” I grin.

“Okay, no longer on me,” Chandler pouts.

“Oh, you baby,” I giggle. “Did either of you hear Phoebe is going to carry her brother’s kid. We talked at length about it. She’s very brave.”

“She’s very kind,” Joey states, stuffing the sub into his mouth.

“So, is the game soon?” I turn to get into my backpack, taking out some journals and pencils.

“We should head over soon,” Chandler answers. “You can sit at their kitchen table and write. You don’t have to watch.”

“Was planning on writing over here anyways,” I slide off the barstool. “Shall we head over?”

The three of us head across the hall where Ross, Monica, and Rachel are waiting. Ross has a board set up for the game.

“Serious, I see,” I set my stuff down on the kitchen table. “I wish everyone the best of luck.”

          “Thanks Ash,” Rachel smiles.

There’s a couple minutes of everyone moving around, and as Ross explains the rules, I settle into writing. Then, as the game progresses, they all start shouting. With my focus out the window, I pay attention to the game. As it would happen, a tie is what ends the normal round. Ross is prepared, and then the stakes are raised.

“All right, hold on!” Chandler interrupts the group. “If you win, we give up the birds.”

“Dah!” Joey lets out a shocked noise and slaps Chandler.

“But,” Chandler calms down Joey. “If we win, we get your apartment.”

          “Oh!”

          “Deal!” Monica blurts out.

In one of the most intense rounds of the game, Joey and Chandler win by one.

“Holy shit,” I mumble as Monica loses it.

“We rule!” Chandler lets slip past his lips.

“Congrats boys,” I speak up. “I am not going to lie, deep down I believed you could do it.”

“Ash!” Monica and Rachel glare at me.

“It’s my brother and could be my best friend,” I shrug. “Next time, don’t bet your apartment.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ From this point on, it is going to be really fast paced. That is because I finished this story in a mad rush because I didn't want to keep doing it, but I wasn't going to let it dangle. Hope that is okay! :)
