20. Close Call

“You look pretty in that dress,” Joey smiles at me.

“You two both look handsome,” I look between Joey and Chandler.

“This better go by quickly because it is so boring,” Chandler sighs.

“I’m glad I was able to call Phoebe,” I change the subject. “The birds are good, and the babies are still in the womb.”

“Sir,” a waiter walks up to the three of us.

          “What is that?” I ask.

“Goat cheese, water chestnuts, and pancetta.”

Joey looks disgustingly at the food, “That’s not food. No, I don’t.”

          The waiter walks away.

“Everything is different here. I want to go home. I miss my family. I miss Central Perk. I don’t even remember what Phoebe looks like.”

“It’s been three days, Joe,” I pat his shoulder. “Being homesick is natural. We will be home in just a few more days.”

“Would you just relax,” Chandler rolls his eyes. “Just try to enjoy yourself.”

“Your different here too. You are mean in England.”

Chandler throws his hands above his head before he walks away.

“Joey, it kills me seeing you like this,” I gently place my hands on his arm. “Plus, you need to cheer up for the toast.”

          “I’ll try,” Joey sighs.

“Good. Now, come on. Let’s eat something.”

After sometime, we are sitting at the wedding party table. Emily asked me to be a bridesmaid, so at the real reception I will be on the bride’s side. As for now, I am next to Joey.

Chandler is first up to make a toast for Ross, and he makes many jokes that no one laughs at. I stifle my laughs to not embarrass myself. Then Joey stands up and does his to, dragging off on how much he misses home.

I grab Joey’s hand, letting him finish talking.

Joey takes a deep breath and looks at Chandler, “Can we go home now?”

          “Joseph, you can do it.”

“I guess I can, for you, cupcake,” he smirks and sits down.

“That might have been too close, Joe,” I whisper, glancing over at my brother.

“Well, my view of you made me realize I can make it the next few days.”

My face heats up, reaching my ears. “Pervert.”

“Well, I’m happy now. And the dress is amazing.”
