7. Moving On
In the months that followed mum's death a lot changed. I graduated from high school in the summer and was being fostered by a childless couple until I turned 17. When I turned 17 it had been agreed that I could move out and live alone whilst still receiving support from social workers if needed. Luckily we had house insurance and my mum had life insurance so all the money went directly to me which would provide enough to keep me going for a few years without a job. However I had all intentions of getting a job as soon as I moved out. After losing mum I realised how quickly things could change so I made my ambition to be happy and live every dream I had if not for me, then for mum. One of these dreams was to be a model and I researched into it and applied to hundreds of agencies and waited anxiously.
My 17th birthday arrived and my foster family did their best to make it amazing and memorable and that they did. I was so grateful to them for the love and kindness they showed me and I had every intention of visiting them like a normal child would. I had now been offered a placement as a model but it wasn't local like I had hoped. It was in LA but the salary I would receive would be easily enough to cover accommodation there and the company offered to pay for the travel and shipping of my belongings after hearing about my situation with my family. My foster parents were sad to see me leave but promised to visit when they could.
The day to leave came quickly and although I was nervous to live somewhere on my own that was so far from everything I knew, I knew that the one person who has always stood by me will be with me the entire time. I smiled at the thought of mum watching me from above, I hope she's proud. After a tearful goodbye with my family I waved goodbye and headed to boarding to start my new life.
The journey went quickly and we arrived before I knew it, I grabbed my suitcase from baggage and looked out for the car that had been sent for me. I saw my name in big black letters on white card being held by the driver, I gave him my address and we spoke a bit about my life and job here and he gave me so tips about living here and we went our separate ways when I reached my apartment. It's in a central location and I felt so positive. I got into the apartment and it was more beautiful than on the brochure and I fell in love immediately. I got decorating quickly and found all the boxes that had been delivered by the modelling company from shipping. I finally finished at about 1am US time and decided to try and sleep as I had to get used to this timezone. As far as first impressions go this was amazing!
