Wonder (Poetry Collection, Part II)

"Do you suppose she is a wildflower?" - 'Alice in Wonderland', Lewis Carroll. Poetry centering around the madness of love, understanding yourself, and dreaming, part two of a poetry collection. Inspired slightly by Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland'.

1. Alice

Alice once lost herself

She fell down, and in the dark

Was scared by what she saw

She thought she saw terrible monsters

Hiding just out of reach in that darkness

Hiding just where she could not make them out

But as she stood and looked around

And as she stood and travelled along the difficult path

Avoiding the tree roots and rocks which littered it

She learned from what she found

She discovered she had friends, even in the dark

Friends who were flawed, but wonderful, just like her

Friends who helped her to see that the monsters in the dark could be overcome

She discovered that she preferred this new person she had become through her journey

To the person she had been before she fell down

Even though she had scratches and scars from pushing past so many branches of thorns

She found she was stronger for them

She found life really was full of wonder

Even if you had to fight your way through nightmares to find it

And so she decided not to find her way back, but forward

The Queen of Broken Hearts was deposed

And Alice took her place

Alice, Queen of Wonderland
