I,sleepily, walk down the steps to the dining room. "Good morning." I say. "Good morning. Breakfast is on the counter island. Be home soon," Karen says, rushing to get out the door. "When Michael wakes up,tell him I said bye." I nod. Dad is already out the door. Karen rushes past me and closes the door behind her. I sigh and grab a plate of pancakes. I eat alone. After cleaning up,I go back into my room to take a shower and change. I throw on my kawaii Popsicle tank top and black denim shorts. I leave my hair straight and I do my makeup. I open my door and go back downstairs. I open the front door and step outside. I walk to the tree I'd climbed last night. I smile. Michael appears on his balcony. I go back inside to find him running down the steps. "Where were you last night at 11:30 ish?" He asks. I look at him weirdly. "In the backyard, why?" His face shows a relieved reaction. "I forgot to check there. I couldn't find you." He walks to the kitchen. I dance around for a second. He bought it! "Oh,your mom said goodbye." I say and he nods his head. I look at the calendar for this month. Michael comes up behind me with a pancake in his hand. "Hey. I didn't know we're having a party in a week," He says. I shrug. The doorbell rings. "I'll get it." He sets down the pancake and opens the door. I watch from the walkway. "Hey. Did you find Emily?" Ashton asks. "She was in the backyard." Ashton nods. "Oh. Well anyway," I go up the stairs to the viewing room so I can still hear their conversation. "Practice is at 2:30,just letting you know." "Okay." Michael says. I close my door but stay outside of my room. "You better stay away from her. I'm warning you. You're up to something. I just know it." Michael says. "I'm not,I swear." Ashton argues. "Yeah, okay." I open and close my door again and go back downstairs. I go to the great room and stare out the window.
"Michael, where are you going?" I ask. "Ashton's house." He replies. "Can I go?" "No,you may not." "Why?" "Because,I said." "But,Michael." "Say that all you want,Emily." "Please?" "No." "Pleeeeeaaaasssseeee." "I said no!" I sit on the steps. "Asshole." I mumble. He turns around. "I'm just protecting you!" He yells. "From what? What will he do?" I say. "He's cheated on girls! You don't know what I do! You have to trust me!" "Michael,I'm old enough to make my own decisions! Let me come!" I yell. "Why? So I can watch you get hurt? So I can watch you fall for a trap? I don't want that!" "It's not like it's ever effected you! You don't have any siblings! Only me and I'm only your step sister!" I yell. "Oh yeah? So,maybe it could've been one of my friends!" "Yeah okay." I say. I cross my arms against my chest and blink back tears. "Emily,I've seen what happened!" Michael sits on the floor against the wall. "Tell me. Tell me everything then." I say. "Fine," he sighs. "Two years ago. One of my friends,Abigail, had just met Ashton and Luke. She already met Calum at the time. She and Ashton started dating. Ashton started dating another girl and cheated on her. Abigail was crushed when I told her. She dumped Ash and cried for days. Days,Emily, days," he pauses. I don't budge. "She moved away a year after. Ashton's lucky he and I are still friends." I narrow my eyes at him. "Cute sob story, but I'm not believing it. Go ahead, lock me in my room. See how I care. You'll just regret everything." I run upstairs and I slam my bedroom door behind me. A few tears roll down my cheeks. I watch as Michael walks down the road to Ashton's house. I leave my room and head to the party room. I walk around the big room. I sit on the steps to the Dj table.
Next thing I know,Michael opens the front door. I sit up. He walks toward me. "Hey. Look,it may seem like I'm just being overprotective, but,I have a reason. I don't want you to be hurt. Just promise me,you'll just be friends with him." He sits down next to me. "Fine." I whisper. I've lost the will to speak. "Thanks," he stops. "Sis." He punches my arm and walks away. I lay back down and stare up at the clouds in the window ceiling. The front door opens and I hear the guys' voices. I keeping looking at the sky. Their voices fade as they go upstairs or wherever. I sigh and watch as the clouds roll by.
