2. Chapter 1
I close my locker and turn to find my three friends waiting. "Goodbye,Em." Megan says, hugging me. "She can't walk home today. She has to go to her gymnastics meet." Allison tells me. "I have to go to my job." Kylie hugs me. "I'm walking today though!" Allison assures me. We all live in the same neighborhood so,we usually walk together. We have a group hug and Allison and I go to the courtyard. We walk and talk about how we'll miss each other and what Sydney will be like and yada yada. We hug each other at the end of my driveway and I walk up to the door. "Dad,I'm home." I say closing the door behind me. "Hey,there she is! Say,how was your last day at Melbourne High School?" He appears from the pantry. "It was okay, but I mean, school is out for summer so,it's like it's a usual last day." I answer. "Are you done packing?" "Yeah. When are we leaving?" I ask. "Tomorrow morning." I nod. "I'll pack up the bathroom." I say and walk to the bathroom. I pack up the towels and toothbrushes and all that is left. I put the boxes outside the door and write bathroom on them in permanent marker. I walk into my room and write my name on my boxes.
We eat pizza for dinner and talk about Sydney. "You'll love it,I promise." Dad tells me. "Okay." His phone starts ringing. He answers it and I go outside. I hear Allison singing so I look over the fence. She watering her plants. "Hey,Allison." I say, making her spill her water. "Don't scare me like that!" I laugh. "Your reaction. Anyway," I say. "I'm leaving tomorrow morning." She frowns. "What a shame." She kicks the ground. "I know." "Allison!" Allison's older sister calls. "Ah,gotta go. Bye. I'll miss you." Allison runs inside and I jump off the fence. I sit on the tire swing and look at the sunset. Dad comes outside. "Just Karen saying goodnight." He tells me. I nod. "Last Melbourne sunset we'll see in a while." I say. He nods. "You know,Karen said Michael plays FIFA a lot." "I haven't played that in ages." I laugh. He laughs too. We talk for a while then go to sleep.
I wake up to sun seeping into the carpet in the living room. Which is where I slept. I stand up and stretch. I grab a granola bar sitting on the counter and eat it. I see Dad outside putting boxes in the truck. I take my boxes out to the truck as well. We finish up and begin driving to Sydney. I soon drift off into a sleep.
