"Why'd she do it?" Scorpious asked Vanessa the next day. It seemed like a perfectly appropriate time to ask her, because they were outside hidden from everyone under the shade of a tall oak tree in the forbidden forest. They both liked to come to that forest for some reason, it always seemed like a nice place to relax and take a break from reality, despite the nasty rumors going around about werewolves and giant spiders hiding behind trees. Vanessa looked down at her feet, digging her sneakers into the dirt. "I don't want to talk about it." He looked at her pleadingly. "Come, on, I'm not going to tell if that's what your thinking. "I know you wouldn't... But that's not why I can't tell you." "Vanessa, I-" "I said I don't want to talk about it." Scorpious leaned back against a tree, giving up. "Okay."
When they returned to the castle for lunch, people started giving them funny looks, whispering things to each other and backing away nervously. "Why are they staring at us?" Vanessa whispered. "No idea." Draco replied, tightening his grip on his wand. Suddenly they heard a voice, a familiar voice, echoing down the corridor. "She's the death eater infiltrating the school, she tried to kill me, she's his daughter!" Vanessa stopped in her tracks. She couldn't believe it. It was Lily. She was no doubt exposing her. "Scorpious I have to get out of here." "What are you talking about?" He said, slipping his hand into hers. "I need to get out of here." She repeated, frozen in the middle of the corridor, keeping her eyes locked on the corner which Lily was bound to come around at any second. "Okay, let's go." He began to walk toward the common room. Suddenly Lily was there, coming around the corridor like Vanessa had predicted. "Scorpious, we have to run." She said hoarsely, squeezing his hand and running at full speed to the Slytherin common room. "Wha-" He began, but was cut off by Lily's squeal. "She's there, and she's got a hostage!" Vanessa ran faster, shouting the password and hurrying inside with Scorpious, who was more than confused. "Vanessa, what is going on?" "You'll find out soon enough."She said, getting down on her knees and crawling underneath the couch, which she was just small enough to fit under. The door to the common room suddenly burst open, and someone shouted, "Where's the girl?" "WHAT?" DJ screamed. "WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?" Ignoring Scorpious, who didn't have a clue what was happening, the wizards who had just burst through the door began searching the common room, flipping over tables and levitating furniture. When the couch raised from her back, Vanessa closed her eyes, wishing her life could be over. That she could just die now and live happily dead, rather than face what was about to happen.
"THERE SHE IS!" Someone screamed. Vanessa felt herself being forcefully pulled to her feet, and she opened her eyes. Scorpious was cowering in the corner, looking ready to pass out, and several wands were aimed straight for her heart.
