I laid in bed as the sunshine crept through the window in order to caress my face.
I know it's the first day of school, but Yamato talked to me on the phone until 2 a.m. I'm pretty tired.
So instead of getting up like I was supposed to, I tossed the cover over my head and turned the opposite way. As if to tell me to get up, Marshmallow sat promptly on my face.
"Mmmm. Marshmallow!" I exclaimed as I moved him to the opposite side of the bed. Just as I moved him, he responded to my actions with a mellow meow. "I love Marshmallow, but Yamato has definitely given you way too many snacks. You're much more chubby than you used to be." He growled at me in response to my comment while also softly clawing at my back. I giggled to myself at Marshmallow's lazy charm.
Just when I was beginning to drift back into my warm slumber I could hear my mother frantically open the front door. Just like every other morning, she was rushing out the door to get to her new part time day job.
"Oh! Mrs. Tachibana. Good Morning!" Said a husky familiar voice. My eyes shot open once I was automatically able to give the voice a face and name.
"Yamato?! Why is he here so early?" I whispered to myself in a panic. I popped up in my bed, but easily lost my balance and fell out of it. I quickly rose to my feet and searched for my fall uniform.
"Yamato! Oh, good morning. I'm so happy to see you! I wish I could stay and chat, but as you can see I'm running late. So, I'll be leaving Mei in your hands. Not that I'm ever worried or anything." As she continued to ramble on, I was already in the mist of pulling my right arm through the short sleeve of my white school shirt. I quickly did the same to my other arm and rushed to my dresser to grab my socks. After quickly retrieving them, I held one tightly in my hand while balancing on foot to put the other on my foot. Just as I was losing my balance, I was saved by a pair of firm large hands that grasped me around the waist. I turned around only to be greeted by the guy that I'm always so happy to see.
"Why, good morning Mei." Yamato said to me with his bright radiating smile. I blushed a little at the fact that he saw me being clumsy. Again. Instead of pushing him away like I always do. however, I sheepishly looked away and managed to mutter out a "good morning" back at him. "Need help?" He asked pointing at the sock that I had barely even pulled over my foot.
"N-no! Don't worry about it! I got it!" I said frantically. Despite my protest, Yamato's right arm curved around the back of my knees and his left arm curved around my back. He whisked me away to my bed and set me down. He dropped down on one knee and grasped my foot lightly. I let a shy yelp as he did this, but his response was only a small chuckle. The room fell into a sudden hush as he pulled my sock up to the top of my calf. The silence wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. It was just...peaceful. He extended his hand out to me and I placed the other sock in his hand understanding the gesture that he was making. He then continued to put on my second sock.
My gaze fell on his stern focused face. Yamato Kurosawa. How was I ever able to make someone like him fall in love with someone like me? I know it's been a whole year now, but I'm still in shock. This still feels so surreal. Our worlds collided on the off chance of his best friend, Nakanishi, attempting to flip my skirt up thinking that I was any other girl. I didn't have a clue at the time who had actually did it, I was just pissed that someone was even trying to get a peak.
"Hey Mei?" He called finally braking the silence. My thoughts faded away almost instantly when he called my name.
"Hmm?" I answered him forgetting that I staring at him this whole time. He removed his hands from my calf and met my gaze. He looked at me with a serious look on his that was beginning to turn bright pink. Knowing that it's rare for Yamato to blush, I began to blush even harder than usual.
"Being down on one knee like this had me thinking about the future." I said clearly trying not to advert his eyes.
"T-the future?" I stuttered.
"Yeah." He said softly. "Our future." My face turned tomato red and my mouth slightly opened in surprise.
"W-what?! Our future?! What are you talking about?!"
"It's just, I love you so much Mei and I don't want to be with anyone else. So if I decided to propose to you one day, will you be able to say yes without any hesitation?" I know that Yamato always says crazy stuff like this when we're together, but how did he get to this just from putting on my sock?! Then again, this is one of the many things that I love about Yamato; he's passionate about the things that he loves. I smiled at him softly and cuffed his face. He held my hand as he laid his head into my hand deepening the grasp.
"Yeah. I will." I said not regretting my decision at all. He smiled at me with same bright smile that gives me life every time I see it.
"Good because I didn't plan on living life without you." We shared a smile before he rose to his feet and extended his hand to me. "Come on. We don't want to be late on our first day back as third years, do we?" I smiled at him and shook my head.
"Plus, Aiko and Asami told me that they wouldn't forgive me if I was late today because I wanted to sleep in." I said with a beaming smile. I stood to my feet and entwined my fingers with his we walked to the front and let go of each other momentarily just to put on our shoes.
"Really? Because I got that lecture last night by Aiko, Asami, AND Nakanishi all at the same time." I giggled slightly at his misfortune. Of course Nakanishi had to get in a word or two if Asami was.
"Sorry." We exited my home with our hands held by the other and my heart beating out of my chest with happiness. Mei Kurosawa. It's not what I'm used to, but I can definitely get there one day. I smiled to myself at the new dream that I had for not only me, but Yamato too. Yeah, I wouldn't mind being married to him at all. However, I'm not sure if I can tell him that yet.
