I remained quiet as snickers began to submerge. I...I don't know what to say. My head hung low and my face began to burn from embarrassment. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes. I can't speak even if I wanted to because I wouldn't know what to say.
"Well?" Mio said dragging it out. She didn't sound mean or sound like she was trying to mock me. She genuinely sounded confused and interested in what I had to say. However, I still couldn't move.
"Mei." I heard a deep voice call. Knowing I couldn't move alone, Yamato grabbed my wrist and rushed us both out of the gym. At the touch of his hand, I was yanked out of the distraught state that I was in.
I looked at the back of his head mentally thanking him for getting me out of there. By the way he ran, however, I could tell that we were running without any sense for where to go exactly.
We ran all the way to the left side of the building where we always hangout. Another stray cat was sleeping in the box and the tree was casting a perfect shadow.
Even though this used to be a place that only I would be, it doesn't feel right without Yamato being here with me.
"Okay. This is good." He said within pants. We both rested our hands on our knees trying to catch our breath from the mini marathon that we had just ran.
After we caught our breath, I resumed my glum look. Yamato reached out to me and hugged me tightly. I hugged him back, but not as tightly as he was hugging me.
"I'm sorry Mei. I should've never let them question you like that and I shouldn't have been apart of it. I know how quiet you can be and I know how much you like to keep to yourself. So I should have been more considerate of your feelings. I'm so sorry." He said sounding extremely sad.
I pulled away from him slightly and grasped his face lightly while also shining him a smile.
"You always care about me Yamato. I know that you weren't trying to hurt me. Not you, Asami, or Nakanishi. All of my friends look out for me." He returned my grateful smile before leaning in closely. Knowing what he wanted, I leaned in too and was happy to be met with his soft lips.
"Woah. Uh...I didn't mean to..." Someone said softly and embarrassed. We pulled away only to see the student body president awkwardly tweed-ling her thumbs with pink flushed cheeks. Yamato only laughed while scratching the back of his head, while I pulled away flustered.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't know anyone was here! But even if someone wasn't here, we wouldn't have been kissing! But since we were kissing, I'm really sorry for that, Ms. Tachibana!" I said bowing deeply.
She looked at me with wide eyes before bursting into laughter. I raised my head surprised at her response. I looked at Yamato and he was just as confused as me. She finally collected herself and began to speak.
"Please. There's absolutely no need for apologies. You two were alone and I invaded your privacy. Also, you're MY seniors. I should be the one bowing my head to you." She said never ceasing to smile.
I sighed a heavy sigh of relief and was able to regain my composure.
"Um...do you mind us calling you Mio-chan?" Yamato asked smiling. I was prepared to lecture him on how much we weren't familiar with her yet, but she quickly responded with that same smile and said "yes."
"Okay. Well then Mio-chan, why are you over here? No offense, but people usually don't come over here. So how come you're here?" He asked partially confused, but also curious.
"Well," she started. She looked at the ground with pink covering the bridge of her nose and she began to fiddle her thumbs again. Her eyes looked up into mine. "Your names Mei Tachibana, right?"
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. I don't recall giving her my name.
"Yes. I am." Her teeth began to show as her smile grew bigger and bigger. If someone besides the two of were to have seen her, they would have thought that she won the lottery. It was if the formalities no longer mattered because she leaped in my arms without any hesitation. Her sophisticated demeanor was out the window too.
I would have landed flat on my butt if it wasn't for Yamato breaking my fall. We were all on the ground as I held Mio and Yamato held me.
"Big sister!" She screamed in my face out of sheer happiness. It was obvious that she did not realize the volume of her voice.
"Big sister?!" I mocked out of shock. I turned around to look at Yamato who was in just as much shock as I was. I turned back to a over joyed Mio. "I-I'm so sorry Mio-chan, but you can't possibly be right! I mean, I'm an only child." She shook her head in disagreement.
"We have the same father, Hiroshi Tachibana!" I froze in shock as Mio continued to hug me fondly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
I don't EVER talk about father to my friends, not even Yamato. All they really know is that he died in an car accident and that he was a really supportive and loving man.
I won't say that she's my sister, but I am convinced that she knows of me and my family somehow. But the question is, who told her?
