“Yes it is with the trailer on the back.’
“How many miles do you drive in a week?’
“About three thousand miles sometimes more I can drive from the port to Leeds or Newcastle and then back. The best runs are the ferry over to Denmark then back again. That is where you make the big money Steve.’ It pays about five hundred a week.’
“I think I’m in the wrong job Maggie; I’m lucky to take home two hundred quid and that’s with four half shifts.
“Yes, but Steve I can be driving for up to fourteen hours a day.’
“I’m driving through the night as well sometimes.’
“Do you not get tired driving for that length of time?
“Well if do feel tired; then I will pull over somewhere and have an hour or two before heading off again.’
The food is kept refrigerated so it won’t go off.’
“Speaking of which, I brought you a gift.’
“He went out to the truck and climbed on board then brought out a big bag.’
When he came in he gave Maggie the bag.’
“What is it Bobby;
“It’s just a few bits of meat to tide you over until I leave.’
“Bobby there’s enough meat in here to sink a battle ship.
There was about twenty pounds of bacon, and then there was ten pounds of sausage, ten pounds of lamb and pork chops, there was a huge pack of sirloin steaks, chicken fillets, liver, kidneys, and mince.
“What am I going to do with all this?’
“Well you can take out what you need and freeze the rest.’
“I can do some baking for the funeral.’
“No Maggie that has already been taken care of.’
“My friends in the catering trade are supplying me with all the food.’ There will be mountains of it.’
“Well we will have to take a doggie bag home.’
“Doggie bag; there will be enough food to feed all of North Shields and all the dogs as well.’
“I told them to cater for six hundred; and there are umpteen people I supply to; so they will be delivering it on the morning before the funeral.’
This will be the biggest wake you’ve ever seen Maggie. Carlsberg Lager are laying on ten barrels of beer for me as well.’ Then there is the wine and spirits Maggie.’
Everything will be taken care of and what is left the Percy Main Club is going to buy from us at cost so there will be a few hundred pounds that will go to buy my father a good headstone.’
I’m glad that I asked you for your help Bobby.’ You are marvellous.’
“Right then; who’s for steak and chips for dinner with some garden peas.
“Sounds good to me said Steve.’
Bobby picked up the huge meat pack and carried it into the kitchen and helped his sister take out what she needed to be placed into the fridge and then placed all the rest of it into the freezer compartments.
“This is going to last me months Bobby thank you.’
“Think nothing of it you want to see the amount of food they dump every week.’
“I make a fortune around the neighbourhood selling bacon and other goods to corner shops.’
