Friday evening to begin the tiling?’ Maggie had already measured up each room so they could work out how many tiles that they would need to complete the job. The kitchen would also be tiled and also the floor.

“When they had paid for that they then went to buy a gas cooker with a double oven double grill and six gas rings. Again it was Bobby who got the cooker very cheaply.

The cooker would be delivered at nine o’clock on Saturday morning.

They bought crockery, place mats, and good second hand tables from the auction rooms, table clothes, napkins, and cutlery they bought from a wholesaler. They would be delivered in a week once the bar had been painted and refitted out.

“Now I need a Neon sign to hang outside Bobby. I want to ditch the old name and give it a more modern name.

“What are you going to call it?’

“I would keep it simple Maggie; you are doing home cooking so why don’t you just call it Maggie’s Bar.’

“Perfect, that’s what we will call it. It will be like home from home.’

Once they had done that then Bobby drove them to Fitzgerald’s

to meet Martine.

Martine came over as soon as Bobby came in and Bobby introduced her to his sister.’

“You are looking for another job Martine; Maggie said quietly?’

“Yes, I mean I like this place but the pay is very poor.’

“Well I’m prepared to give you a job in my new bar restaurant if you want it.’

“I do very much so.’ But I do not want to give up my house.’

“I understand; do you know where the Black Bull is?

“Yes I do, is that where you are going to be opening your new bar?’

“Yes Martine.’ I’m opening in two weeks or as soon as the painting and new fixtures go in. don’t worry about the flat; someone will take it on.’

I have a friend who is looking for a place she was my friend in University; you call her Karen Stobbs and she would love it; she is very respectable and I’m sure you would like her Maggie.’

Alright then you could ask her to come down and see me next week and we will sort out the rent. The place will be fully furnished with modern furniture and new fridge, cooker, etcetera. You can tell her that I’m fitting a shower, and tiling the entire bathroom and the kitchen area.’

You seem to be spending a lot on the flat Maggie.’

“That is why the rent will be three hundred pounds per month; whoever takes it on will be living in a luxurious flat not some pokey old hole.’

“I will speak with her this afternoon.’

Maggie watched as some meals were being served in the bar but what they were serving were just burgers and chips. Not home cooked food that she was going to produce and sell to customers.

Maggie did try the sandwiches as they ate a quick lunch.’

I’m working until eleven o’clock today Bobby, but I hope that you will come around after work.’

“He’s got little else to do replied Maggie.’

“I’m off all day on Thursday.’

“Yes but that’s the day of my father’s funeral, you could come though if my sister doesn’t mind.’

“I didn’t know your father Bobby and it might be seen as a bit Hypocritical.’
