Bobby could you take us into North Shields I want to get Steve kitted out in some new suits but we have to drop his resignation in at the depot on Albion Road first.

Maggie sat up front with Bobby so that she could speak with him and she explained about the bar restaurant on the way.

Bobby said that he would help her find a place.

Bobby and Steve went into Burtons and bought six suits each with shoes, shirts, ties, and handkerchiefs. Then Maggie went to a shop for women’s clothes whilst they were getting fitted out.

Both Bobby and Steve bought a black suit and black Crombie coat for the funeral.

They bought black leather gloves and umbrellas in case it rained.

Steve then kept the blue suit on with his shirt, tie, and new shoes then they both went for a hair cut at Alan Breezes across the road before Steve walked into the offices of the Chase on Albion Road. Alyson the receptionist couldn’t believe the sight of the man who had just walked in.

Good morning Steve.’

Normally she wouldn’t have even given him time of day unless he spoke first.’

“Is Mr Aitkin in?’

“Yes; would you tell him I’m here please?’

Mr Aitkin, Steve, I mean Mr Aplin is here to see you.’

He’s bloody late and he better have a good excuse.’ Walking out of his office He went to walk towards Steve’s office.

“I’m here Mt Aitkin.’

“Why aren’t you in your office working and it’s about time you smartened yourself up.’

“Yes, isn’t it said Steve; I have and I’m going to so here is my notice. You can stick your job; you see I’m going to run my own business; I have slaved long enough in this shit hole. I will however come this Friday to collect all that is due to me.’

“Good day.’

Bobby felt elated as he left the porta- cabins and got back into the car.

“Did you do it asked Maggie?’

“I did Maggie and it was the best feeling in the world I can tell you that.’

I would have paid money for a picture of their faces.’

“Now see what you can do when you put your mind to it.’

“I feel as if I can do anything.’

“Let’s go look at our new house said Maggie.

Bobby drove them to the house where they looked around.

“This is bloody marvellous Maggie.’ said Steve as he walked from room to room.’

Right lets go and see if we can find a nice bar restaurant for sale.

Bobby got back into the car and drove them to West Monkseaton through the village where they saw an old tavern called the Black Bull outside there was a for sale notice.’

“Can we go in Bobby?’

“Well the bar is in a good area said Bobby there are plenty of people around so why are they selling?’

They all got out of the car and Maggie told Steve to let Bobby do all the talking.’

They went inside where there were about twenty regulars having a drink.’ The elderly man came out to serve them.’

“Hello what can I get you?’
