"Are you ready?"
"As I'll ever be."
They drew their weapons, and stepped into the jungle.
"I'll go find a vantage point, and guide you from above, while you sneak around, and find me other places to hide," she told him.
"Understood," and he plunged into a bush. Using a new trick he had come up with earlier the day before, he combined his sensing abilities from each of the kinds of magic he now wielded, to achieve a more detailed idea of the area around him than only using one or the other could.
In his mind's eye, he saw Brocke quickly creeping along the ground, moving through thick plants, to remain undetected by any enemies nearby. When she had come to a tall enough tree, she seemingly flew up it, barely making contact with each branch. Wish she'd teach me to climb like that.
"Come in Red 7b9-az, this is Green 2p7-qt, I am in position."
"Copy that. I am proceeding. Cover me."
"Copy. Providing cover."
With that, Saeflod darted from his hiding place, and quickly moved along a path he had planned out while still in the shrub. He watched every part of the thickly overgrown wilderness that he could see, in case a patrol came by.
"Red 7b9-az, I have lost visual. What is your position?"
He described the large, hollow, fallen oak which he crouched in.
"Hold position. I am in transit, to another post."
He resituated himself, deeper into the shadows of his concealment. He used the same spell again, observing this new location. He was considering the possible courses he could follow, when a huge of bigger creatures came into his consciousness, approaching Brocke.
Saeflod further considered the animals, before he realized, with horror, what the were.
"Abort! Abort! Move to a secure location." He told her, as the heavily armed soldiers came ever closer to his friend. They would kill her in moments in a direct conflict.
"Retreating to cover." She rushed as quickly as she could into a cluster of bushes, blind to her nearing danger.
He waited, monitoring her.
When she had informed him that she was done, he rushed down the tree, and through the forest. Reaching good position to see the patrol, he halted.
"Prepare to ambush enemies approaching my location," he whispered.
"I copy. Use special arrow?" she suggested. By this time, she could see them, and had drawn her bow.
He pulled out his wand, and readied himself for the arrow that was about to come into view. This'll be fun.
"Arrow is loaded."
An arrow sailed into view. Saeflod immediately reacted, and cast a spell on the water inside the bolt, making it explode outward. Then, he split it into hundreds of drops of water, shaped them into sharp needles, and froze them, effectively turning them into a hail of shards of glass.
Moments later, they hit the squadron, and sliced directly through them, filling them with holes. It took only moments for them to crumple to the ground, now dead. Serves them right, mother killers!
"Wow! That was perfect, Red!"
"Thanks. We also have a whole lot of emeralds and disguises, now."
"Copy that. Rendezvous at the squadron?"
