The Garden of Love

My entry for the poetry competition - "Rewriting The Greats". Rewrite of "The Garden of Love" by William Blake, 1794 Replacing the Garden of Love, with Central Park in New York City. The skyscrapers represent the Chapel and the incongruity between industry and nature.

1. The Garden of Love

I went to the Park full of Love

And saw what I never had seen

Skyscrapers blocking the sun

Industry engulfed the green

And the streets were covered with vehicles

And 'STOP' written on signs in red

So I turned to the Park full of Love

To the flowers growing in their bed

And I saw it was filled with people

And cafes where flowers should be:

And tourists with litter, were making me bitter

And crushing the briars, my joys and desires
