We reached the wall again. We’d been trying to think of what our best move would be. We decided that Becca would cause a small distraction, just in case there were any Policers on the other side of the wall. Then Kyle and I would sneak in quickly.
Becca was hoisted up, just enough to peer over the top of the wall. She jumped down immediately. “Three Policers.” Becca whispered.
“Okay. If you go 100 yards that way,” Kyle says, pointing to the left, “you should be fine. The Policers will leave to see what’s going on.”
Becca nodded and ran off. She screamed at the top of her lungs, a distraction, and that was our que. I didn’t even need Kyle’s help. I hoisted myself over the wall, as did Kyle. We checked our surroundings, and sure enough, the Policers had run toward the noise.
We ran to the facility and I unlocked the door. Kyle entered first, holding his pistol out. Nobody was there, which seemed really stupid of the people running the facility. We remembered which way to go, and headed to the hallway we came from. I went to the cell we left Rick in. To my surprise, he was still there. Apparently there’s not very good security here.
I unlocked the cell. “Thank god you,” Then he saw us, “What are you doing back?”
“You lied!” I scream.
“What are you,” I cut him off again.
I shot him in the knee cap. I seemed to be getting back at aiming. I continued, “Where is Claire fatass?” my tone of voice was harsh.
“Blonde?” He grimaces.
I nod. “Hall 5, room 8.” Rick admits.
I kick Rick back in to the cell, locked it, and ran to find hall 5. Kyle was staring at me. I could tell he was very shocked at my sudden confidence. We kept running until we found hall 5.
The doors were different. They didn’t have any locks on them. They were just regular, wooden doors, that had a window framed out in each of them. Above the doors were numbers. We got to door 8, and I cautiously opened it, thinking it very well could be a trick.
There was Claire, and a little girl, maybe age three. Claire jumped when I opened the door. She closed her eyes, and hid in the corner.
“Claire. It’s Charlotte.” I say softly as if I’m talking to a lost child.
Claire looks up at me. She immediately runs up to me and gives me a huge hug. I don’t hug back, I’m too confused. “What’s going on?” I ask.
Claire breaks down in tears. “They made me do it. I didn’t want to, but,”
“What did you do?” I butt in. Claire sobs so loudly, I’m afraid we’ll get caught by their faulty security. "Forget it. You can explain later! Is there anyone else here?”
Claire shakes her head and wipes her tears. “Okay. Let’s go.” I say, starting toward the exit.
“Wait! I can’t leave Mya!” Claire protests.
“She’s one of the Odies!” I protest back.
“I’m not going, unless she can come!” Claire stands her ground.
“Fine!” I give in, “carry her or she’ll slow us down!”
Claire grabs Mya, “We’re going on a little trip okay?”
Mya nods and we’re off. Claire is pretty slow, so it’s hard for her to keep up. Kyle takes Mya and it still doesn’t help. I don’t slow down though, I just keep going until we’ve reached the exit. I open up the door, ready to breathe in the fresh air. As soon as the door is opened, it’s chaos.
