The next day, I ran to Skylar's with flowers in my hand. When I got to the door, she opened it and smiled at me.
"That's so sweet, Titus." She smiled and I handed her the flowers.
As soon as she took the flowers, I fell backwards and looked up at the sky.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"I don't run." I laughed.
She laughed and helped me up.
We sat on the couch for a few minutes and then made a bed on the floor.
"Before we watch the movie, I need to take a shower." I laughed.
"The bathroom is down the hallway." She laughed.
I came back after ten minutes and sat next to her on the floor.
I held her hand and the movie started.
"Why do you smell so good?" She laughed.
I laughed and sat closer to her.
About five minutes into the movie, she laid her head on my shoulder and I wrapped my arm around her.
"I'm not making you uncomfortable, am I?"
"No." She smiled.
About twenty minutes later, she fell asleep.
She was so beautiful and she slept so peacefully. I picked her up and rested her on the couch.
"Good night, beautiful." I smiled and covered her up with a blanket.
A put a pillow under her head and moved the hair out of her face.
I laid on the floor and turned off the movie.
The next morning, I opened my eyes to see Skylar awake.
She stared at me from the couch with a smile on her face.
"What are you planning?" I laughed.
"You're so cute when you sleep." She laughed.
I blushed and smiled at her more.
I sat on the couch next to her and she curled up next to me.
"How did you sleep?" I smiled.
"Great, and you?"
"Great." I smiled and stared into her beautiful eyes. She stared into my eyes too and we found ourselves leaning towards to each other. The front door opened and her parents walked in. We quickly pulled away.
"Titus, come here." Her dad said.
"Yes, sir." I said nervously and followed him into the kitchen.
"You and her didn't do anything last night, did you?" He growled.
"No, sir. She told me about her past relationships and she didn't deserve any of that."
"And why didn't you go home after the date?" He asked.
"She fell asleep on me and I didn't want to hurt her feelings by leaving without saying goodbye. I made her a bed on the couch and I slept on the floor. I didn't want her to feel uncomfortable."
"You respect her. I like that." He said and pat my back.
"Thank you, sir." I said and I went back out to Skylar.
I sat next to her and we smiled at each other.
Months passed and we finished high school. We moved in with each other. Yes, we had our fights but she was all I ever wanted. One night, we were laying on the couch and I was massaging her feet. We had talked about our future a lot, and I was happy when we did.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"If we were to have kids, what would we name them?"
"Tyler or Maya. What names do you like?" I smiled.
"Trinity or Max." She smiled.
There was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." She said.
After a few minutes, Skylar shouted my name.
I ran to the door to see Ian in tears.
"Ian? Why are you crying? How did you get here?"
"MOM, DAD... TAXI... HELP!" He cried.
"Hey, Ian, calm down. What happened?"
"Blood, knife, help."
We quickly drove home to see police tape around the house. I ran up to a police man.
"A homicide. A tall man, in his late 30's, stabbed a woman to death." He said and I stared at the house, anger coursing through my veins.
I stormed inside to see mom laying on the floor, motionless. Days passed I was talking to the doctors.
"Her condition is still unclear. We're waiting to see improvement."
The doctors left the room and I sat down. My head was hurting so much I couldn't comprehend a single word that I was thinking. Skylar sat next to me and rubbed my back.
I looked at her.
"It'll get better. I promise."
I could see that Skylar had something on her mind.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Is there something you're not telling me?" I asked.
She stayed silent.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Babe, just don't freak out."
"Are you having an affair? I swear I'll rip his head off."
"No, Titus. Follow me."
I followed her out her front doors.
"I don't know how to say this." She sighed.
I felt my eyes tearing up. Was this the end? Was she done with me? I couldn't say anything. I was paralyzed with fear.
She wiped my tears.
"No, Titus, it's good news."
A few moments of silence passed.
"It's good news, it really is. I just don't know how you'll react to it."
"You can tell me anything." I said.
She took a deep breath.
"Babe... I'm... p-pregnant." she stuttered.
I held her tight.
"I love you so much." I said, holding her tight.
"I love you too."
"There was actually something I wanted to ask you."
I got on one knee and held her hands.
"I know this sounds cheesy, but everything is better with you. There's nobody else I'd rather spend my life with. I was drowning when I met you, and you were my air. You still are, to this day."
She looked down at me, a thousand emotions in her eyes.
I grabbed a small box from my jacket.
"Skylar, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
I opened the box to reveal a ring.
Tears streamed from her eyes and she got on her knees on the ground next to me and hugged me.
"Nothing could ever make me happier."
