1. On the plane
Oh, hi there. My name is Dakota. Right now I’m on a plane to America. The America, the USA. My English is good enough and I am good enough. They want me in the team… who would have thought that…
You’re probably wondering who I am?
I grew up with my grandparents. No mother, no father, because my mother was long gone. No one ever told to where she went, but by the age of eighteen (biologically) I found out myself. She was gone. Like… gone gone. Not dead, no, she was still alive, but she was far away. Even farther away than the earth’s orbit, because, well, she was on another planet with some freak who was my father. And I didn’t have a clue until recently.
My mother was a doctor, a good one. She helped people and she loved me. When I was three- six actually- she went with him to that ‘Elysium’. She never came back.
It never really bothered me. I was happy with my grandparents. They took good care of me and were the opposite of overprotecting. They encouraged me to go out, make friends and do stuff, but I never got out of my room. All day long I read books and searched the internet. I must’ve read the whole library by now. From the moment I could read I was reading. I absorbed the information like a sponge. It started with fairy tales.
Later on, by the age of ten, I was reading more complicated books like myths, horror, detectives and teenage-girls-stuff. But most of all I liked the myths of the Norse gods. The book was given to me on my seventh birthday and I discovered a whole new world, not yet realizing it was my world and that the book came from my father.
Now I’m reading scientific books and more mythology. Those things are my cup of tea.
Life wasn’t complicated. I went to school, got the best grades, was never bullied or anything. I was a loner, but loved to have a laugh with people sometimes, like pranking them, filming it and putting it on the internet. I am that kind of people that everybody likes but doesn’t have a close friendship with.
I grew up in Belgium, but now… I moved to America. My grandparents didn’t join me. I was old enough to make decisions of my own. I became 10 years old recently, but was biologically 18 (it’s complicated, I’ll explain later).
My world’s upside down for the moment… I don’t know why I signed the contract. I could have went to university, got a well-paid job and had lots of children. Somehow I didn’t care and wanted to do something different.
By the way: I'm Loki's daughter.
Here’s my story…
