1. For a friend.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember the time when we were really close?

It seems like years ago now,

Those times when you were by my side,

And everything felt just fine.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember that one night we camped out?

We climbed through the window at 1am,

Because all the doors downstairs were locked.

But it ended in us throwing stones at my mum's bedroom window.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember when we jumped in the pool?

It was 3am and we were dressed in pyjamas,

I remember how cold it was,

And how we dashed to the tent when we heard a noise.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember that Christmas we met at the cafe?

And I covered your gifts in pretty black bows,

Which we stuck below our noses,

And walked around town pretending we had moustaches.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember when I came to visit you?

We took selfies on the bus on the way to the city,

Those picnics in the park by your house,

And the time we got milkshakes and had our nails done.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember that time we walked around town?

Hand in hand causally walking down the street,

We made it seem like we were two lost sisters,

In an urge to find our missing parents.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember that planet we made up?

Just so we could escape the reality of the world,

Making everything seem so nice there,

Making up things to make ourselves look crazy.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember those videos we made taking the mickey out of people?

We couldn't stop laughing when trying to be serious,

I still have them on my phone now,

I laugh at them every once in a while.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember when you were depressed and suicidal?

Of course you do,

But do you remember how I helped you,

And how I refused to leave your side.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember how you were my rock?

We depended on each other and made so many memories,

But you've left me now and I don't know how I'll pull through without you,

The battle is becoming bigger and the urge to leave is getting stronger.

Dear "best friend",

Do you remember how you vowed never to leave me?

Please come back because this pain is killing me

I know you're out in the world enjoying your life,

But don't you remember who you left back home.

Dear "best friend",

Dear sister,

Dear stranger,

I hope you'd still recognise my face in a crowded room.
