Ryder is supposed to pick me up around 7:30 because our movie starts at 8:00 and we want to get popcorn and good seats. Ryder is usually a little early so I planned on 7:25.
Sure enough Ryder arrived at 7:25. I grabbed my small brown leather purse and headed to his car before he even got to my door. Did that make me seem too desperate? Oh well.
“Ready?” Ryder asked as he reached out to give me a hug.
“Yep.” I replied hugging him back.
I hopped up and took shotgun. Ryder has a small red truck with only two seats. He hardly ever washes his truck, so it always has dirt on the sides that I try to avoid while getting in to the car.
I don’t mind dirt or anything, but I would not be happy if I got my nice clothes muddy. Today I wasn’t dressed too nice. I was just wearing a pair of skinny jeans, and a nice pink top that had the words ‘Dream’ ‘Love’ ‘Hope’ written in black.
The ride was weirdly quiet. Usually Ryder and I couldn’t stop talking. We got to the movies and he kindly paid for my ticket. I paid for our popcorn and got it how Ryder likes it; extra butter and a little salt.
We held hands as we walked to our seats. We both liked the very back row so we could talk during the movie if we wanted. Today I think we might do more than just talk. Ryder and I haven’t had our first kiss yet. I mean, he’s given me a few on the cheek, but not a romantic lip kiss. Today was the night, I could feel it.
We sat down and I put the popcorn right in between us. We both reached in at the same time and our hands touched. We both looked at each other and smiled. I let out a soft giggle.
“Bridgett,” Ryder began, his smile faltering, “I need to tell you something.”
Was he breaking up with me? My stomach fell to the ground and I was going to be sick. I played it cool though.
“You can call me Bri you know?” I joked, though I was dying on the inside.
“I told you, Bridgett is special, just like you.” He was staring at me.
I wanted him to kiss me, right then and there. I wanted so badly to be wrapped in his arms and held tight forever. For some reason, I didn’t think that was going to happen tonight.
“You’re so cheesy.” I laughed, still dying inside.
“Umm, here’s the thing,” I knew it. He was going to break up with me, “I… I have to... “ He paused, looked at me, and with the blink of an eye out lips were pressed together and we were having our first kiss. It was magical, more special than I even imagined. I never wanted it to end. But it did end.
“I love you Ryder.” I was beyond giddy.
“I love you too. But I…” he stuttered, “I’m moving to New York.”
I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, couldn’t do anything. My mind drew a blank. This was a nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from. How could this happen! I felt a trickle down my cheek. I was crying.
“It’s okay.” Ryder held my head in his arms.
“It’s not okay Ryder! Why do you have to move?” I was still crying silently.
“My dad got a job offer and he took it. I begged him not to, but he did anyway.” Ryder explained wiping away my tears.
“I… I don’t know what to say.” It was true, I didn’t.
“Don’t say anything. Let’s just watch the movie together and we’ll figure this out later. Okay?” Ryder said and I nodded.
I didn’t even pay attention to the movie. I just held Ryder’s hand and put my head on his shoulder. I wanted to make this moment last. My last moment with Ryder. I realized how much my life had changed since I started dating Ryder. Ryder was no longer the popular boy, Ryder Paisley. He was just Ryder, my boyfriend. And I loved him.
