14. The Concession Stand

I headed back up to sit with my friends. I sat down and immediately was bombarded with questions.

"What was that about?" Lea asked.

"What?" I asked half confused, half knowing what she was talking about.

"Why were you guys talking so long?" Jade followed up.

"It was nothing. Really." I assured them.

"Are you sure?" Meg asked pressing me.

"I'm sure. He jut asked me to meet him at the concession stand after the game is all really." I stated calmly, though on the inside I was freaking out.

"He wants to meet you at the concession stand?!" Trish was giddy.

"Let's just watch the game." I said turning my head toward the field, ignoring their looks.

The game ended, and we lost badly. I headed over to the concession stand alone. Jade, Lea, Chloe, Meg, and Trish had already left at staggered times. Except Chloe got a ride from Trish, so they left together.

I waited right in front for Ryder, my heart pounding. Then I saw him coming. I waved my hand in the air so he'd know where I was. He rushed over.

"We got killed out there!" He said obviously.

"Not really." I lied.

"Are you serious? We got creamed!" He retorted.

"I wasn't going to say anything, but yeah, you guys sucked." I smiled.

"Hey, maybe you should take my place as wide receiver, because I seemed to suck at it tonight." He joked.

I changed the topic, "So why did you want to meet up here?"

"Um... to congratulate you on catching that ball again I guess." He said unsure.

"Oh. Thanks." I laughed.

Ryder was so easy to talk to. He understood me it seemed. Then I realized that I was talking to Ryder Paisley, not an understanding friend.

"I better get going." I said losing my smile again.

"Oh, okay." He said losing his smile as well.

"Nice job today. You didn't completely suck." I made that final joke and drove home confused.

Is that when he started liking me? Did I blow it? I needed to do something.
