You Said

You said you were afraid of the ocean,

that you wouldn’t swim with me.

You said you were afraid of the ocean,

of finding the beauty that lies in the deep.

 

You said you were afraid of the sunlight,

that’s why you dug yourself a hole,

and inch by inch slipped into the darkness,

which embraced your lonely soul.

 

You said you were afraid of the silence

the way it hangs on your every word,

that’s why you filled your head with the voices

of those black-winged death birds.

 

You said you were afraid of the ocean,

‘cuz there’s a flame engulfing your heart,

and that if you give it water,

you’re afraid that it might start.
