“Best that you don’t know darling, then they cannot implicate you.’
On the fourth day of the last week Foxy Harris discovered something very interesting.
They were some ten miles from where the first grid was set up when Foxy who was holding the Magnetometer got a strong reading he went off to investigate it and found a deep rock shelf. Diving down, it was some one hundred and fifty feet straight to the bottom. It was only about twenty five feet wide at the top but widened as you got to the bottom there was an under water cavern to the right and Foxy swam to it. He didn’t see much at first then he flashed his light and something large glistened back at him. He went further inside and the magnetometer was going crazy. He swam to the shiny object and he moved the sand and took hold of it. It was an urn made of pure gold with engraved ships on it. He flashed his torch around the urn and it said La Girona and the date was clearly marked MDLXX11.
The urn was very heavy and he marked its position on the grid before placing it into his net and swimming back to Jim with it. He tapped Jim on the shoulder and signalled for him to surface.
They both went up then removed there fins before getting out.
“What’s up Foxy asked Jim.’
“I… I’ve found the Girona Jim.’
“Where is it?’
“There’s a shelf about two hundred yards to the right of the grid; It’s about twenty five feet across but it widens as you go further down Jim. Then there’s a large cavern to the right here.’ He showed Jim the drawing that he’d made.
“No wonder no one has found it all these years He took out the gold urn that was fifteen inches around and about thirty deep Foxy handed him the golden urn and Jim felt the weight of it in his hands it must have weight around ten pounds. They looked at the designs of the galleons on the front depicting a battle. Jim saw the marking for the Girona and the date. “That’s fifteen seventy two Foxy’ this was made before they sailed for England. “ It’s a lovely piece is it not?’
“Yes; it may hold someone ashes inside so we will open it inside the boat come on.’
The lay down their fins and went to the Sandpiper they went down the steps to where Monique was and showed her it.
“Belle said Monique.’
“Look can we open it without losing the ashes that are inside?’
Monique set it down on the table then passed everyone a surgical mask. They clipped the elastic over there ears then Monique tried gently to unscrew the top. “Is it jammed asked Foxy, it could be rust.’
“Gold does not rust.’
Monique tried again and this time the lid began to move. Both men took a deep breath and held it in case the dust flew all over. But both of them let out a massive gasp to find it was full with rubies, pearls, and sapphires.
“My God said Foxy there must be a million pounds worth of stones in there.’
”Closer to ten million my friend look at the size of them they are huge.’
“After counting and noting each stone and pearl they were put back in the urn and Jim asked Monique to put them somewhere safe. “ Come on Foxy lad, let’s go, and see if we can find the rest. Jim wrote on his clip board before placing fresh tanks on his back Foxy did the same then they put on their fins and slipped into the water.
“When they caught up to the rest he showed them the board that said “Follow Me.’
Foxy led the way down off the ledge then headed to his right to the cavern where he had found the urn and showed them the exact spot where he’d picked it up.’
