“Everyone held their breath as they crossed the coast and turned towards Shannon.

“When they landed at Shannon airfield there was only one propeller working.

“Talk about squeaky bum landings said Paddy; I thought we were going to have to ditch there for a moment.’

“Never in doubt said Jim laughing as Rob taxied to the hanger and where he could refuel the plane. Paddy drove them to O’Donoghues where Gracie was waiting for them with a plate of Dublin Bay prawns and salad followed by Dover sole, new potatoes, asparagus spears and some tartar sauce.’

By seven o’clock the rest of the team got in and Gracie fed them too after they had all unpacked.’

Jim got them all together and explained what they had seen earlier.’

“Do you think it’s the site then asked Foxy Harris?’

“Well we will know better when we take a look tomorrow.’

Paddy had brought them the photos and they checked them over.’

“Look said Selene that looks like a large cannon doesn’t it.’

“By the way lads these two ladies will be joining us on the dive. This is Selene Moreau who is a film maker and researcher from the IUS and her friend Monique Renoir who cleans and restores artefacts.’

“You know what happened the last time we brought women on a trip with us grumbled John McWilliams.’

“Relax John the war is over.’

“I still don’t like it.’

“You are free to leave if you so wish John but the ladies are staying.’

“You’re the skipper said John.’

Robert Black came out and asked if they would be coming next door for a pint of the black stuff and listen to some music.’

“You lads go ahead if you want to; I want to go to my room and check out a few things. Jim headed down the corridor with the charts and photographs.

Jim checked the references from the account given by Francisco de Cuellor in 1589.

“They just didn’t add up. Then he thought what if the Spaniard was trying to seize the treasure for himself; it would be easy for him to give the wrong co-ordinates to Phillip 11 then sail out at a later date to try and recover the loot. He looked in his reference books again to check when Francisco De Cuellor sailed again it was four years after the peace agreement between England and France. He sailed to England on the orders of Philip11 but made the trip via Ireland and went aground off the coast in a ship called the San Mariona a galleon with forty guns. Francisco made it back to Calais via a Dutch ship. He died in 1595 leaving behind him the mystery of where the treasure of the new world was either lost or hidden.’ Jim hoped that he had now the means find the treasure. It would be the greatest find since Howard Carter discovered the pyramids. He lay in his bunk thinking when he was awoken from his daydream by a gentle knock on his door thinking it was Rob he opened the door. It was Selene;

“I’m awfully sorry I thought it was Rob.’

“May I come in?’

“Yes of course; give me a second and I will put on my robe.’

He reached for his robe that was hanging on the back of the door. He put it on then tied the belt around his waist before asking Selene in.

Selene entered the largest room in the pub it had two seats, a dressing table, a wardrobe, and a double bed. She sat on the edge of his bed looking at him as he asked her if she would like a drink.’

“Non merci.’
