Two days have passed, and I have finally come to a conclusion. I called Louis and told him that I'll be accepting his offer to intern for him. He told me that I would start the following Monday. We hung up our conversation. I couldn't have been any more grateful.
I was so close, but still so far away from landing a permanent job working for Louis. That Monday, I got dressed for work. I know it's only an internship, but it meant a lot to me that Louis offered it. I drove to LT Enterprises. I parked my car in front of the building and walked inside.
I headed up to the fourteenth floor. When I exited the doors, I was surprised to see Louis out of his office. He was talking with the receptionist about his scheduling conflict. This time he was wearing a grey suit, black shirt, and grey tie. Everything he wore couldn't stop him from looking so good.
He turned around and smiled when he saw me. "Miss Dane, I was expecting you. Come with me." He casually placed his hands into his pockets and walked down the hallway. I followed him right into his office. He closed the door behind us.
"This is a planner full of every event that I have upcoming in the next two weeks. You will escort me to these events no questions asked. You will dress appropriately for each event; and I'll have a driver come by to pick you up. While you are here at the office, you are going to observe what the other women are doing here. You are not allowed to interfere. This will allow you to get a feel on what you will be doing, if you do land a permanent job here. Any questions?"
"You said no questions asked." I looked up at him. He smiled a bit and said I passed the test. He walked over and sat down at his desk. I opened up the planner to look inside. He had an upcoming charity event, a gala, and many business meetings.
"I may not have anything to wear to these events." I closed the planner. He looked up from his paperwork. Should I have said that? I can feel my heart beating against my chest. Maybe I should've just left the room instead. The look he had given me ignited a burning ache.
It was some feeling that I haven't felt before. I gently bit my lip. He stood from his desk and walked over to me. I walked backwards and was against the wall. "You don't have to worry about buying anything. I'll send over what you need." He reached up and touched my cheek.
He brushed away a stray hair that was in my face. I was in such a rush that I had forgotten to tie my hair. Though it seemed like he didn't mind it at all. It's almost as if he liked it down. I nodded and swallowed. "I'll see you this Saturday at the charity event." he smiled.
He let me leave the room. I closed the office door behind me. I can finally breathe. I didn't know anyone here, but I spotted Sophia. She was the woman I met two days ago when I was here. I wondered if she knew about Jade, but then again, I should keep my thoughts to myself.
"Hey, are you working here?" Sophia approached me. I walked away from the door. I told her that I was just an intern for Louis. "I remember when I was an intern, actually I was an assistant. Louis and... or should I say Mr. Tomlinson and I were once friends. I started here when he got the company up and running. Sometimes I want to leave this place, but he doesn't allow anyone to leave unless he decides they do. He had me run errands for him all the time. It became tedious, but now I have my own desk out here. Guess life's been good to me lately."
"What do you know about all these events?" I showed her the planner. Sophia opened it. She said she had only seen this planner once when she was scheduling a business meeting for him. She told me about each one and how I should be have. "I can come over and talk about them more with you." She suggested and handed it back to me.
I told her that I would be grateful. I wrote down my address for her on a piece of paper. Surprisingly enough, she said that a friend of hers lives there. As it turns out, it's Liam. She said she had to get back to work, but she'll see me later during lunch break. I did as I was told.
I observed what the other women were doing on the floor. Most of them were on the computer typing away. There were men who worked here as well. "You the new intern?" A man walked up to me. He was fairly tall, black haired, and hazel eyed. He looked to be about 5'9. I nodded in reply to his question. He held out his hand towards me. "Zayn Malik."
"Alyssa Dane." I shook his hand.
"Are you going to be around for lunch?"
"Yeah, it seems like I am."
"Do you want to come with me and a few of my friends out for lunch? We have someone that needs a companion to talk to." said he. I nodded and agreed to join them. Zayn smiled and said that he'll go tell his friends. As soon as he walked away, the door to Louis' office opened.
His eyes catch mine. I turned away to hide my blushing. I swear I could feel his eyes at my back and other women in the room seeing at what was going on. "Ready to head to lunch?" Sophia walked up to me. I nodded and went to the elevator with her.
We headed down to the main lobby. She began asking me about what was going on between Louis and I. We exited the building. "I don't know what you're talking about." We met up with Zayn, Liam, and two others: Perrie Edwards and Harry Styles.
Perrie and Harry were working together for another company. We all headed to a local food place to have lunch. I found out that Sophia was crushing on Liam and Zayn was crushing on Perrie. They couldn't have been any more obvious.
While the four of them were in conversation with one another, that left me with Harry. Now Harry was a very handsome ban. He had curly brown hair and green eyes. It was something about the way he smiled that I found irresistible. Maybe it was the dimples that showed when he smiled.
After lunch, Harry and I decided to take a walk along the pier. He asked about how long I've been living in Los Angeles. I told him my whole life. "I'm guessing you want to get out and see the world someday." Harry's hands were casually placed in his pockets. He was fairly tall as well.
Maybe if I wasn't so caught up in this Louis business, I would go for Harry instead. "I would need to save up some money first." I smiled.
"If you ever plan on traveling, you should take me with you." Of course it was a suggestion, but I told him I would take him up on that offer. We headed back over to the group. Everyone had been wondering where we had gone off to. I doubt that they actually cared about where we were.
They hardly paid any attention when we left them. It was time for us to part ways. I exchange numbers with Harry before heading back to work with Sophia and Zayn. "Harry's definitely a keeper, if you're interested in him." said Sophia.
We headed up to the fourteenth floor. Zayn stepped out and headed back over to his desk when the doors opened. Sophia and I exited after him. "He does seem like a good guy." I smiled. I couldn't stop thinking about the way his eyes lit up. He definitely seemed like a genuine person.
Sophia went back to work. Again, I was alone. Louis opened his office door and motioned for me to come inside. I headed over. He closed the door behind me. "Are you busy later?" asked he. I thought about meeting Sophia after work to go over the planner.
I figured that I can talk about it with her tomorrow during lunch break. I shook my head. He smiled, "Good. I want you to have dinner with me." First I had lunch with him before I accepted the internship, and now I'm having dinner with him too.
I wondered why he's wanting me to have dinner with him. Why not Jade? I still wanted to ask him about her. Maybe another time. I nodded, but before I could ask about what I should wear, a knock sounded at the door.
Louis walked over to open the door. I couldn't see the person's face, but they seemed to be talking about something important. Louis closed the door. "Where were we?" asked he.
"Dinner." I replied.
He nodded, "Right. It's tonight at six o'clock. I'll have someone to pick you up." Afterwork, I had gone home. I went straight to my closet to look for something to wear to dinner tonight. I had no clue where Louis was planning on taking me to dinner.
I mean with as much wealth that Louis has, all I know he could take me out to some fancy restaurant to surprise me. I got ready just before the time reached six o'clock. I grabbed my bag and headed down to the main lobby.
There was that guy again, the no-name guy. He entered through the main entrance and caught my gaze, but still didn't approach me. A car had driven out front. I assumed that was the vehicle that was going to be picking me up. It was a black Mercedes-Benz.
A man stepped out and asked me if I was 'Miss Dane.' "I am." I nodded slightly. He opened the door for me. I got into the car. When he was seated in the driver's seat, he began the drive on down the street. I glanced out the window.
We were heading to a different part of Los Angeles that I have never seen before in my life. I wanted to ask the driver about where we're going, but I decided to keep my mouth shut. He stopped the car in front of a white building.
He opened the door for me. I thanked him as I stepped out. I looked at the building before me. This was either a fancy house or a condo. I walked up the stone pathway up to the front door and rang the doorbell. I waited a minute or two before the door opened.
Louis stood before me, only wearing his black dress shirt and grey dress pants. His shirt was slightly unbuttoned, so it made a protruding V-neckline. Also, the sleeves were rolled halfway up his arms. Why didn't he look this way at work?
It wouldn't have mattered. I would've still thought that he was sexy as- "You look beautiful this evening." He interrupted my thoughts. I was thankful that he did. Otherwise I would let my mind wander on about the many things I could do to this man. "Thank you Mr. Tomlinson." I wanted to be respectful as possible.
"Please, call me Louis." he smiled. There he was with that charming smile. Probably one of the many things I didn't like. Maybe it was due to the fact that he was dressed a certain way, almost a relaxed CEO rather than Mr. Uptight. "Come in." He stepped aside.
I entered into the foyer. He closed the door behind me. This building was larger than I thought. Music was playing quietly in the background. This wasn't just a dinner. This was a date. I wasn't prepared for this to be a date. "Would you like some wine Miss Dane?"
He had entered the kitchen and inserted the corkscrew into the cork. I nodded and placed my bag on the counter. I poured me a glass before pouring himself one. "I thought we were on a first name basis." I smirked. He looked at me before taking a sip of his wine.
His eyes were playful, like earlier in his office when talking about the charity event. "Sorry, my apologies Alyssa." He smirked. We went into the main dining room. Food was already served on the table. Everything looked so good that I just wanted to dig right in, but I didn't want to be rude.
We sat down at the table. As we ate and drank wine, I was just completely focused on the kind of music that was playing in the background. There were no words until I realized that it was classical music. I wonder if he listens to anything else. "How did you enjoy your first day?"
He took a bite of his food. I told him that I talked with a few of the employees and how nice they all seemed. "Sophia and Zayn are good company. I'm sure you're aware that Sophia and I were once friends." said he. I nodded, but I dare didn't ask him about what happened.
"She came into my office wanting to quit, but I gave her an offer that she couldn't refuse. If you're thinking I slept with her, I didn't. I promised her a promotion if she could do a few things for me in return. She kept her word, and now she has her own desk. I'm quite aware that she has been running late recently, but she has done so much for me and this company that I can't fire her. It would be near to impossible to replace a wonderful person like her."
"You don't have any open spots, do you?"
"Well, not at my company no but I want to keep you around. You could be my assistant like Sophia, instead of an intern."
"Are you going to ask me to fetch you coffee and pick up your dry cleaning?"
"I have someone to do that for me already. She's not even lucky enough to escort me to all of these events. No, you're going to be a different kind of assistant." He took a sip from his glass. I wondered at where he was going with this.
He definitely wanted me to be more than just an intern for him. He wanted to pay me for being his assistant, rather than not pay me by being an intern. "If all goes well on Saturday, I might consider you for an even better position."
