Eventually I decided to move back to Los Angeles. I had everything sent over to the Malibu home. Zayn, Harry, and Liam helped me unload the boxes from the moving truck. Sophia and Perrie were over at the house as well. Niall was going to drop by sometime in the afternoon with Jade.
Since my spontaneous move to New York, so much has been going on with my friends. Liam and Sophia were in engaged. Zayn and Perrie were dating now, which didn't surprise me. They were a beautiful couple. Niall and Jade were still together. Last I checked, Harry was still single. I haven't put much thought into dating anyone else.
Though with the exception of Harry and Niall, there weren't a lot of men that I found attractive to me. "I bet you missed living on the beach." We were all gathered outside on the patio having some fresh iced tea.
Harry had stepped out for a minute to answer a call. When he returned, he mentioned the caller was Niall, who ended up being a no-show and Jade as well. "Those two are always making their own plans last minute. They don't really hang out with us anymore." said Perrie.
"So, New York didn't live up to your expectations?" asked Liam.
I shook my head. "It's nothing like LA. Guess I realize how much I missed this view." I motioned towards the beach before us. I remember when Louis and I were together, I would close my eyes and enjoy the sounds of waves crashing against the shoreline. It was quite relaxing.
I could fall asleep to the sounds. "We missed you Aly. When you left without word, we were all wondering why you decided to cut us off." Sophia took a sip of her drink. I apologized to all of them for what I had done.
Before anyone could add on, there was the sound of the door bell. I stood up and went to answer the door. It was a bit of a surprise to me to see Jade. I thought she and Niall weren't going to show up, but Niall wasn't with her.
"Niall got caught up in business stuff. He told me that you'd be at this address. He'll be here later." I stepped aside and allowed her to enter the room. Jade greeted everyone with a hug. It's safe to say that she and I were on the same boat about this whole Louis thing.
It's good knowing that she had moved on from him. A part of me couldn't move on fully because I had worked and lived with Louis for two years before moving to another state. "You decided to move back to LA?" Jade sat down on one of the barstools.
I offered her a drink which she politely accepted. I sat down on the empty stool beside her. My other friends were in conversations of their own. "Guess I really missed living here. It's definitely a different crowd of people." I took a sip of my drink.
All of us were talking amongst ourselves when my phone rang. I reached into my purse to answer the phone. Louis' voice came through on the other end. He was asking for me to meet with him for dinner Saturday. I asked him about the time and place. He gave me the street address of the restaurant and to be there at seven o'clock. I wrote it down and hung up the phone after we were done. "I've been there." said Jade.
"Yeah. When Louis and I were dating in college, we went to that restaurant on our third date. It was just two blocks away from the campus. That place has great food, great service. He doesn't take very many people. I should know because I was the only person he's ever taken there."
"Why do you think Louis would take Alyssa there?" Sophia had looked over my shoulder to see what I had written down on the notepad I pulled from my purse. Jade explained that it was one of the places Louis would go for special occasions.
She said that their third date was to celebrate her birthday. Well, that got me more curious. My birthday was just months away. When Saturday came around, I got ready. I grabbed my bag and headed out to the car. I drove to the restaurant using the GPS my phone had provided.
I parked in the lot of the restaurant. I didn't recognize any car in the parking lot. Maybe Louis wasn't here. it was ten minutes until seven. I decided to enter the restaurant. The hostess greeted me at the door. I told her that I was meeting someone here. She asked me for the name.
When I told her, she said that Louis was waiting for me at the bar. I thanked her and walked in the direction of the bar. I saw Louis sitting there with a drink in front of him. "I didn't think you'd agree to come out tonight." said he. I asked him about the occasion. He had this look of confusion on his face.
"I've been told that you take your girls here for special occasions." I saw Louis smirk. He finished his drink. He got up and held out his arm for me to take. I eyed him suspiciously and linked my arm with his. He led me to a secluded place just outside where no one else was around.
I noticed that most of the people were inside the restaurant. Louis pulled out a chair for me. I sat down when he pushed it in. He sat across from me. "I don't think you remember why today means so much to me." said he.
He was wearing a navy blue buttoned up with the sleeves rolled up halfway and was unbuttoned slightly creating that V-neckline. I stayed silent to allow him to continue talking. "Today just so happened to be the first day we met, and I figured that we should go out to celebrate."
There was champagne and two glasses that were sat atop the table. We were out on the patio of the restaurant enjoying the beautiful sun which would be setting later in the evening. "What about Eleanor?"
"What about her?"
"Have you ever taken her here?" Louis shook his head. He called over a waiter to open the champagne for us to have. The waiter pours the champagne in each glass before we had our food ordered. The waiter walked away leaving us alone once again.
Louis said that he had only brought one other person here besides me. To my conclusion, it was Jade. I haven't brought up the fact that it was Jade who told me about the restaurant. I pretended as if this news was surprising to see.
"Eleanor and I never had any memorable moments. If you couldn't already tell but back at the house, I hadn't exactly packed up my stuff and moved out. I wanted to leave everything as it was before you left. I wanted you to come back home and see everything the way you remembered it." said he.
Louis reached out and took my hand to caress it softly. By this time, our food had been brought out to us and were starting on our meals. When he held my hand, it sent a rush of emotions over me. Just a huge tidal wave. "I wouldn't have imagined you for being so thoughtful of other people and what they think." I told him and looked down, only thinking back to the day we first met.
I remember the two of us were having lunch out on a patio like this one. The thought suddenly hit me. I glanced over to my left at the restaurant inside. The windows were similar. Also, the design of the patio decorations as well. "You took me here before, didn't you?"
He smiled, "Alyssa, in the four years I have known you, you don't fail to amaze me. I know I have hurt you by being with Eleanor, but I had to go to someone because I thought I was losing you. Eleanor was the only person I could talk with about my situation. She understood what was going on with my situation. When you left, I thought it was over. I couldn't sleep for days. I left the house because I couldn't stand being there without you. Everything about that house remind me of you. Of course you packed up everything, but the memory of you was there. It was in the plates, the coffee maker, the couch, and suddenly the bed started to feel empty.
"I was starting to fall for you, but I didn't know what to do. You were working for Niall at the time, so it was easier for me to deal with what I was going through. You were happier. I thought you were going to leave me for someone else, but you didn't. I know how close you are to Harry. I know what he sees in you. He was the one who told me you moved to New York when he came back from seeing you. I asked how you were. Harry and I had a good long chat about you. He mentioned that you hadn't moved on from anyone else.
"Guess you can say I was relieved. Seeing you again months ago, I didn't think you'd come back. I didn't think you'd decide to stay. I was lost without you, and for a long time since you moved to New York, I felt that you were happy with your new job. I thought you didn't need me. I thought I didn't need you, but I do. I do need you. I want you and not in the way that you're probably thinking right now. You are the woman whose resume stood out from the rest. You are the woman who made a first impression without speaking a word.
"You are the woman who can enter a room in a beautiful dress of any kind and make heads turn. You make every dark night into day. You help me push aside my selfish ways and completely turn me into the man that wants to settle down with one woman. I just figured you needed to hear my side of the story."
“You brought me out here to tell me all of that?” I watched that when Louis smiled, there was a glimmer in his eyes. He was keeping something from me. He didn’t say a word and continued eating his food. I had a feeling that this night was far from over.
After our dinner, we walked back to his car. I realized there were no other cars in the parking lot that were his besides the one I had driven over. I handed him over the keys once we got inside. He started the car and made the drive on down the street. Louis was known for his surprises.
I didn’t bother to ask him about where we were going. I would find out eventually. Ian parked his car in the lot before the pier. Mr. Tomlinson, what are you up to now? I asked myself and followed him out to where a yacht was docked at the pier. “You own a yacht?” I asked him.
He helped me onto the yacht where we headed out on to the bow. This gave us the most beautiful view of the sunset. He told me that he just recently bought this yacht; and no one else knows of its existence but the two of us. He added that this was one of the few surprises that he had for me. The first surprise was the dinner. I’m assuming that this was the second. “This yacht is beautiful.” I looked over at him.
“I knew you would say that.” he smiled. “You are worth every risk I’ve ever taken. For so long since you left, I wish I could’ve changed things in order to make you stay. Guess I had to learn to live without you to realize that I find it impossible to.” He took my hand and got down on one knee.
He pulled a diamond ring from his pocket. I was speechless. There were simply no words to describe the emotions that I was feeling. “I love you. It’s hard for me to imagine myself being with anyone else. You give the right taste of intimacy. You’re beautiful, intelligent, and you always keep me wondering what’s going on inside that head of yours. I’ve dreamt of spending my life with you since the day we met. I would love for that dream to become a reality. Alyssa Dane, will you marry me?”
