6. Five

The next morning I awoke in bed with a pounding headache. I looked over at the bedside table and saw two pills with a glass of water. I took them both with the water. I realized that I was wearing nothing, but my panties.

I saw that the balcony door was open. Louis entered the room wearing only a pair of flannel pants. "Good, you're awake." he smiled. He walked over and sat on the bed. I sat up and wrapped the bedsheets around me. I asked him how long I was out for. He said that I passed out just as we were leaving the party. "Why did you go alone?" asked I.

"It was mandatory that I go. Besides, I would've missed seeing you in that dress. You definitely shined like a princess."

"A drunk one."

"I'm not going to yell at you for doing so. You wanted to enjoy the night, and I let you have your fun. I did try going out and ask one of my old friends to go to the Gala with me, but I decided against it. I couldn't imagine going to that Gala with anyone else, but you. When I saw you had gone with someone else, it hurt me."

"Sophia told me that you cheated on Jade with her best friend."

"Oh." He looked down. "It's a long story."

"I have time."

"Alyssa, now's not the time for long stories."

"Guess you don't trust me then." Getting out of bed, I walked straight to the bathroom and closed the door behind me. I slipped off my panties and stepped into the shower. I turned it on and let the warm water run down my body.

Not too long after, I felt Louis get into the shower behind me. His hands were on my hips. I turned around and faced him. "Where do you want to live? I know it's not in some small apartment." said he.

"Why are you asking me this?"

"Where do you want to live?" He repeated his question. I didn't hesitate to give him his answer. I told him I wanted a place in Malibu. I've always dreamt of a view near the beach to watch the sunset. "Tell me more about that dream house."

The fact that we were still in the shower didn't bother me. I opened up to him. I told him I wanted a house right near the beach. It could be a one or two-story house with enough rooms to one day fill kids.

I want a kitchen with hardwood flooring and granite counter tops. I told him about what I wanted for every room. I suggested to have an office space, just for work. Louis and I finished our shower. "You want a lot of things Miss Dane." he smiled.

"I've had a lot of time to think." I stepped out of the shower and wrapped myself in a towel. Louis did the same. "Why are you curious about what my dream house?"

"I just want you to get everything you want in life." said he. "I want you to be happy with what you have, and you should know that you have to work hard in order to get what you want. One day, you'll wake up and everything you have will be gone. You have to tell yourself that giving up isn't an option." He reached out and touched my cheek to caress it softly.

"What's your dream house like?"

"You are living in it." he smirked. "It's not that I want a dream house. It's mainly the person I want living in it with me. I don't care about the house or the items in it. It's about sharing all of that with a person I care about."

I nodded and looked down. I thought about what Sophia said. I thought about what those women had whispered about Louis. He has yet to tell me the story. He didn't deny that he cheated on Jade.

Was it worth for me to be with a man like him? Did I want to put all my time and effort into someone who might possibly cheat on me as well? I wasn't sure. The only thing that I do know is that I still have feelings for him. Those feelings aren't going away any time soon. I still want to be his despite what everyone says. I hope he feels the same way I do.

. . .

Two years have passed since the Gala. Instead of working for Louis, I am working for Niall. Guess that recommendation from Louis really paid off. Though, Niall would've hired me anyway without recommendation.

Working at this new company made me work closer with Harry and Perrie. Also, I was getting to know Niall again really well. The environment here was much more relaxed than at Louis' company.

I was missing Sophia and Zayn, but I would go over to visit them. "I see that you've made yourself comfortable." Niall entered his office. I had found myself a place in his chair when out on business meetings.

I had my own desk and my own chair, but Niall's was much more comfortable. He had a maple desk that I was completely jealous of. He had the best view in the entire building. I stood up and apologized. "I couldn't help myself. You know that." I smiled.

Niall was currently seeing someone, but he never mentions her name to me. I wonder why he keeps it a secret. Guess he doesn't want to spill all the details while at work. "Were you this stubborn at your other job?" asked he.

"I was only an intern. Before that, I worked at retail. This is the only real job I have. So if I'm stubborn, maybe you should just punish me for that. With Harry's birthday party coming up, are you bringing your secret girlfriend?"

"Punish you? I might have to take you up on that offer if your boyfriend doesn't punish you first." Niall chuckled lightly. "No, she's not my girlfriend. She and I are currently friends, but we'll see if she accompanies me to the party."

I rolled my eyes and headed out of Niall's office. Within these two years, Louis became my boyfriend. We lived in a five-bedroom house in Malibu, California. My life was great. I had a job, friends, and an amazing boyfriend.

My family couldn't have been so proud of my achievements. After work, I arrived home. Louis was inside making dinner. Dinner would depend upon who arrived home first. "How was work?" asked Louis.

I set my bag on the counter and told him about my day. I told him that Harry's birthday was Saturday. I was trying to hint at the fact that I wanted Louis as my date. He clearly didn't pick up on that hint.

Actually, he avoided every topic I brought up mentioning a party or an event involving my friends. "I'm busy that night." He took out two plates to serve the food.

"You say that every time I ask. Why don't you want to go with me?"

"It's not that I don't want to go with you. It's-"

"It's what Louis? You don't want to be seen with me as your girlfriend? You'd rather be seen with me as a business partner or an intern? Is that it?" I interrupted him. Just like that, my appetite was gone.

I walked out of the dining room and shut the bedroom door behind me. Louis was never like this, not when we started dating. It confused me. Usually he would agree to go with me, but two years into our relationship, he changed.

That night when we were in bed, Louis reached down and touched my hand. "Babe, I'm sorry. I've just been having a stressful day at work this past week." I couldn't look at him. I didn't want him to know that I had been crying.

Lately, I've been crying a lot. I have called Sophia and Zayn many times to talk to them about it. They tell me it's something I'll get over, eventually. Niall and Perrie weren't helping either. Harry was the only one who agrees that something is wrong.

"I'll go to the party alone. It's fine." I pulled my hand away and turned on my side. I stared out the window and looked at the moon. I prayed every night that things would be okay, but since then, nothing has changed.

That Saturday, I went to the party alone. Though I did tell Louis where the venue was just incase he wanted to come. I doubted that he would. Harry approached me with a hug. He was the first to greet me.

Everyone else had followed suit. I wasn't in the mood to talk with anyone, except for Harry. Niall hadn't arrived at the party yet. It made me wonder about who he was going to bring. "You alright?" Harry walked outside to meet me on the patio.

"I wish I can say that I am." I looked down. He handed over an open bottle of beer. I took it from him and drank.

"That bad, huh? I'm glad that you came. I thought you would've stayed home."

"Oh, and miss out on all the fun? You're... what... a quarter of the way there?" I smirked. "Harry, you are 25 and living life. I'm surprised you haven't found yourself a girlfriend."

"Well, all the girls that I've seen that are here aren't for me."

"It doesn't mean that the statement was directed at you." He smiled. "You'd be the exception, if you don't already have a boyfriend. Yes, I've had previous girlfriends Alyssa. They just come and go. There hasn't been one girl that I've laid eyes on that I want to marry some day, you know?"

I nodded. His statement only made me think about Louis. I remember when Louis and I had that conversation about my dream house. I remember him mentioning a person he wanted to settle down with.

Currently, I have that mindset but I don't feel that he does. Yes, I want to carry on having fun with my life but eventually the fun is going to stop. This was one of the ways Louis and Harry were alike.

Yet, I never pictured Harry to be a player. He hasn't told me much about those previous relationships, but I figured that Harry had always gotten his heartbroken. I felt bad for him.

It was a beautiful night out. It was just the two of us sitting outside quietly talking. Everyone else was inside having fun. "It's your birthday Harry. You should go on in and celebrate. I don't know why you're spending all this time talking to me."

"I like talking to you Aly. You're beautiful, smart, and funny. I haven't met a girl in such a long time that I have gotten along this well with." There were those dimples again. I blushed slightly and looked away.

Why does he make me feel like a 14 year old girl all over again? He reached out with one hand and touched my cheek. He brushed a stray hair away from my face and put it behind my ear.

I looked into his bright green eyes. My heart was pounding against my chest. He was leaning in towards me, but I pulled away. I couldn't kiss him. "I can't." I stood up and set the bottle on a nearby table.

I walked into the house to leave, but my eyes caught his. Louis was here. I didn't think he'd make it. He walked over to me and asked where Harry was. I motioned behind me. He nodded and walked past me.

"You okay?" Sophia walked up to me, concerned. Liam was with her as well. I nodded, but I didn't want to tell them about Harry just yet. I decided that I was going to wait another day to tell them. Louis walked back into the house. "Let's go." he told me.

"You just got here." said Sophia. Louis grabbed my hand and pulled me with him. Why was he being so forceful? We walked outside and headed to his car. I was able to free myself from his grasp.

"What the hell is wrong with you Louis?" asked I. Before he could answer me, Niall's car drove out front. I could recognize his car from a mile away. Niall steps out of the car, along with his date. Jade?

Well, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. "Louis, I didn't expect you to be here." said Jade.

"We were just leaving. Let's go Alyssa." Louis grabbed my hand and continued the walk to his car.

"You're dating Louis now?" Jade turned her attention to me. "I'm surprised he hasn't cheated on you... yet. If I were you, I'd go for that Harry guy before Louis finds someone to replace you, like your best friend."

"That was seven years ago. Let it go Jade." said Louis. Guess the whole cheating thing was a touchy subject.

"You've failed to admit it to yourself that you're still in love with the girl. C'mon Alyssa's just a distraction. I'm pretty sure that she still has feelings for you Louis, but how would I know? She and I aren't exactly on the same page any more." Jade headed towards the direction of the house.

Niall gave me an apologetic look, which mean that he would explain later before following her inside. Without another word, Louis and I got in the car. "What does she mean that I'm a distraction?"

We were stopped in front of our house. We hadn't spoken since we had left the party. Louis turned to me and said, "Everything she's saying is a lie. You're not a distraction." Why does it feel like I am?

I shook my head and got out of the car. I entered the house and started packing. The odd thing was that Louis wasn't trying to stop me. So, was Jade right? I didn't know.

I don't exactly believe the ex-girlfriends of the men I date. Louis asked me where I was going to go. I had some money saved up from working at Niall's company and the retail store. I got in my car and I drove.
