Kissing Niall was to give me reassurance that the decision I was going to make was definite. As much as Niall was my closest friend and Louis was someone who could give me everything, Harry had been there for me when no one else was. Here I was driving to his place trying to figure out who I deserve to be with. I arrive in front of his place and rush to the front door. I knock and wait for him to answer. Finally, the door opened and I just pressed my lips against Harry’s. He was definitely surprised. I felt his arms wrap around me to return the kiss. A small part of me had hoped he would. It was that same part of me that hoped Harry would feel the same about me. I just felt so strongly about him. I had these feelings I have never felt before with anyone else. It wasn’t there with Louis or Niall. Should I find this revelation odd? I pulled away and looked into his green eyes. “Wow Aly, that was… unexpected.” said he, almost sounding breathless. I chuckled lightly and smiled a bit.

“I guess I should explain to you why I did what I did.” I told him. He nodded and invited me inside. He offered me a glass of water, which I accepted. I drank a sip after I was handed a glass and explained to hi my reason. I told him about Louis’ proposal to me the night before and how today I went to my mom to explain to her how I was really feeling. I mentioned the brief kissing with Niall, but it was mainly due to whether or not I felt something for him. Upon my discovery, I felt nothing. It wasn’t odd. Niall and I have known each other for years. Also, I wanted to kiss him partly for curiosity. I wanted to know what kissing him felt like. It was experimental. “I’m assuming you said yes to Louis’ proposal.” Harry motioned towards the ring on my left hand. This ring was meant to be for someone else. A person that actually had feelings for Louis, like Eleanor. I wasn’t sure if Louis still had feelings for me. Maybe I was a place holder for Eleanor and he was for… Harry. It was so weird to think of it that way. Though it was the genuine truth.

“I’m going to give the ring back to him. It doesn’t feel right for me to have it. Some other girl is deserving of this ring and to be his wife.” It was so uncomfortable to have the ring around my finger. My feelings for Louis have been lost. Harry had given me a reason to love again. After my move back home from New York, I can only think about the times he and I have shared together. He made me forget about my stressful life here in Los Angeles. I couldn’t have been any more grateful. Being with him, my heart beats a thousand times faster. I can see a future with the two of us. I can imagine us raising two beautiful children. Maybe we could raise our kids in the suburbs of New York, maybe Brooklyn. “So, what about the kiss we exchanged at my door step?” asked he.

I looked down and said, “I know you feel something for me too. I have to go and return this. Thanks for the… water.” I walked out of his condo and headed straight for my car. I began the drive back to my house. His car was in the driveway. It was then I noticed that Eleanor’s was there as well. I was half-expecting her to be here. I walked up to the front door anyway and rang the doorbell. Why was she even here? When the door opened, Eleanor stood before me. She was wearing a silk bathrobe that almost looked like mine. Wait, that is mine. “Aly, hey.” She sounded breathless. Did she run to answer the door? I asked her about where Louis was. Before she could answer, Louis emerged from the hallway half-naked. He opened his mouth to say something but I shook my head. Now, I felt less guilty about kissing Harry before coming here. “Good to know you two are made for each other.” I said. “I was actually going to return the ring to you Louis, but I’ll give it to Eleanor instead. Oh, and while you’re at it, pack your stuff and get out of my house before I come home tonight.” I took of the ring and handed it over to Eleanor. I told her to keep the bathrobe before walking back to my car. I heard Louis call out my name. He grabbed my arm when I reached the driver’s door.

“Aly, I can explain-”

“How do you explain to me that you slept with your ex? I thought maybe you and I had a chance to be together. As it turns out, I’ve been lying to you too. When I moved to New York, Harry was there visiting his family. The two of us had a great time actually. He helped me move on from you. When you got together with Eleanor, I was jealous and hurt. It sucks that I had to hear it from someone else, not you. I’m sure it’s because you didn’t to hurt my feelings. Well, indirectly you did. Oh, and I should mention that I kissed Harry before I came here. I hope you two have a nice life.” I opened the door and got in. I backed out of the driveway and drove back to Harry’s. I knocked and waited for his answer. Harry opened the door, again surprised to see me. Though he wasn’t half as surprised when I kissed him again. This time it was he who pulled away. “Aly, there’s been something I want you to know. It’s been eating at me since the day we met.” said Harry.

“You want to go inside and talk about it?”

He shook his head. “I love you. When you came over and kissed me earlier, I’m sure you could tell that I was a bit surprised. I have been wanting to be with you for a long time. I remember that time we spent together in New York. You looked like you belonged there. Though, I’m thinking it was because I was there to keep you company. I couldn’t have imagined being with another girl in my life. After all I have been through with relationships, I was close to giving up. Then you reached out to me and became my friend. You showed me what it’s like to hope that there’s a girl out there for me. It took me this long to realize that it’s been you all along. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, starting now. Will you be my girlfriend?” A smirk spread across his face. Sure it was no proposal, but I accepted it anyway.

“You bet Mr. Styles.” I smiled and kissed his lips.

. . .

Harry and I have been together for about a year now. The day I had told Louis to leave, I decided to let him and Eleanor stay at the Malibu house. It was I who packed up my stuff and moved in with Harry. His condo was just large enough for the two of us. The two of us talked about a family. We were still deciding on whether to stay in Los Angeles to be close to my family or to New York to be close to his. With either decision, I just want to be with Harry. I didn’t care where we lived or what city our children grew up in. I would go anywhere in the world with him. “Hey, I just got the mail.” Harry walked into the kitchen with the stack. He had to announce the arrival of our junk. He sorted out the two different stacks. The first envelope I noticed in mine had Louis’ handwriting. I picked it up and opened it. “How long was our mail in the box?” I asked him.

“When did we leave for our trip to Hawaii?”

“How about making a spontaneous drive to attend a wedding?” I showed him the invitation. Louis and Eleanor were getting married. Harry looked at his watch and asked me if we were going to be late. I told him that if we drive 80mph we could still make it in time to see them exit their ceremony’s venue. The two of us were all ready for a wedding. We get in the car. Harry said that we had no gifts to give them. “I think us being there is a surprise enough babe.” I smiled. Louis and I still kept in touch despite ending the engagement. My dad was surprised about the news, as was Louis’ family. We arrived early for the reception, only because the traffic had slowed us down. We were able to buy a quick present on the way and were now sitting idle in the parking lot in front of the reception venue. A few of the guests had showed up. Louis and Eleanor hadn’t arrived yet, but I was expecting for them to show up soon. I get out of the car with Harry who was carrying the wrapped gift. “Aly!!” Sophia ran up and greeted me with a hug. Liam approached us, holding a baby in his arms.

“Soph!” I returned the hug. “You have a baby?”

“I have a baby! We’re expecting another one next April.” said she. I congratulated both she and Liam. “Our son’s name is Tyler. We want you to be his godmother.”

“I’d be honored. Thanks you guys!” Again, I hugged the two of them. After my little chat, the rest of our friends joined the group. I talked about my trip to Hawaii with Harry, who was busy conversing with Niall and Jade. It’s good to see that Niall and Jade were back together. They surely made a cute couple. Perrie and Zayn were expecting a child on the way too. I was disappointed to have missed their wedding, but they forgave me for it. It was nice to see all of my friends. “You didn’t RSVP?” asked Jade.

“I was in Hawaii. It’s not my fault we got back a week ago and didn’t check our mail.” We entered the ballroom where Louis and Eleanor’s family were gathered. Louis and Eleanor were going around mingling with people. There wasn’t a spot for Harry or I. Harry had set our gift next to the mountain of gifts that were piled on one side of the room. “Alyssa, I didn’t expect you to show up.” Louis greeted me with a hug. I was still working for Louis. However, I did think about working for Niall but decided against it.

“I’m sorry I didn’t RSVP.” I said when we pulled away.

“You’re not on the list.” Eleanor approached us. Harry stepped in and led her away from the two of us. Louis and I exited the ballroom. A year ago, I could’ve been his. Though, it wouldn’t have been right. Emotionally, I didn’t feel anything for Louis. Guess it had always been more of a physical attraction all this time. “It’s okay. I reserved a seat for you anyway.” he smiled. “I should’ve accounted for a date.”

“Harry will find a seat. I just wanted to say congratulations.”

“You’re leaving?”

“You’ll see me at work when you come back from your honeymoon.”

“Aly, you can’t just walk in, drop off a gift, and then leave. Please stay. I want you to.” Louis instinctively reached up and caressed my cheek. I felt the blood rush to my cheeks. He may as well still give me those deep passionate feelings but I wasn’t going to act on them. I could see it in his eyes how much he wanted me there. Though I could also tell that Eleanor wasn’t too happy to see Harry and I show up unannounced. “Your wife doesn’t like us to be here.” I told him.

Louis leaned in and brushed his lips against mine before leaning into whisper into my ear. “I thought about you last night at my bachelor’s party.” He pulled away and pressed his lips to mine. It was brief. He pulled away before I could do anything about it. He gave a wink and walked back into the ballroom. I stood there, completely dazed and confused. What just happened? A married man just kissed me. I mean, Louis just kissed me. I felt cold plastic against my chest. I reached into my dress and pulled out a hotel key card. He’s a smooth son of a-- “What’s that?” Sophia approached me. I was still holding the key card and stuffed it back in my dress. I shook my head and told her that it was nothing. Then again, Sophia knew me too well. I told her that it was a key card to a hotel room that Louis gave me. “Louis gave you--” I hushed her. A few of the guests had looked towards our direction. I didn’t want to draw too much attention. “Louis gave you a key card? He’s married.” She repeated in a quieter voice.

“I know. I don’t think it means anything.”

“Uh.. honey, he gave you a key card to a hotel room. It definitely means something. What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to go up tonight after the reception and see what this key card fiasco is about it. I just don’t want to jump into any assumptions. It’s not likely Louis and I will sleep together. We’re both off the market.”

“Just be careful.” She reminded me. I nodded and put the card into my couch before walking back into the ballroom to enjoy the rest of the party. Later after the reception had died down, I went up to the room and walked down the hallway. I inserted the card into the slot and saw rose petals leading to the balcony. I entered and closed the door behind me. I set my clutch and the card on the table. I wasn’t sure on who I was expecting to be standing on the balcony waiting for me. I walked towards the balcony and to my surprise, it was Harry. “Did you do all of this?” I asked him.

“I get by with a little help from my friends.” he smirked. I rolled my eyes at his reference to a Beatles song. “But I did do all of this. I had Zayn and Niall bring all of this stuff in here. Liam managed to keep Sophia and the girls occupied long enough. Also, I think he told them that I was doing this. Sophia was trying so hard not to tell you, but she did well because you walked in here completely clueless. I needed her to let you think about something different because you might expect something, especially at a wedding. Louis supplied the cherry on top. I told him to do whatever it takes to give you that hotel card. Now, I don’t want to know what he did but it worked.

"Alyssa, in the last few years I have known you since we met, I couldn't imagine being with anyone else. As I have said to you before, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to start a family with you some day. I don't care when and I don't care where. As long as it's you and I, I know that we can get through anything together because I have faith in us. I love you. I haven't stopped loving you. Every day, I find new things about you to fall in love with. At first it was your eyes and then your smile, but the more I started to get to know you, I fell in love with your personality. I fell in love with the fact you never gave up on yourself. You believed that something good could result from a bad experience. You grabbed at any chance you had to make your life better. Watching you fall in love with Louis was the hardest thing I ever had to watch, but I was there on the sidelines watching you fall for him. When you two broke up, I didn't make it my job to step in and be your rebound. I stepped in and became a friend you needed a shoulder to cry on. I wasn't deserving of the woman that you are.

"I kept thinking: man, she's too good for me. She's beautiful, intelligent, and a guy like me would never have a chance with a woman like her. She deserves so much better. Then we had a good time in New York. As much as I love spending time with my family, it was good to spend the holidays with you as well. I remember getting constant calls when I flew back to LA. My parents were constantly asking me about you. They just want me to bring you back to see them again. I was embarrassed to tell you that my family really love you. They have never accepted any girl that I've brought to meet them as their own. It was right then and there I had to make you mine. Then you came to my condo a year ago and kissed me. I wasn't expecting for that to happen. You didn't tell me at all you were engaged to Louis. Guess I was just a little hurt.

"Then you decided against marrying him. It was a surprise to know that you felt that way about me too. I had known all along that you were the one person for me, and I was too blind to see it. I've wanted to be more than friends with you. I just couldn't figure out the best time to break out of the friend zone and go for something more permanent." It was right then and there that Harry bent down one knee. He took out a small velvet box. Oh my gosh. He opened it up and held my left hand in his hand. "Alyssa Dane, you are my best friend, my lover, and the one person I can see a future with. You brighten up all of the days of my life. When I'm with you, there is no one else. Everyone just disappears when we're together. I want to wake up every morning next to you, seeing your beautiful and makeup-less face. I don't care if you don't think you're hot in the morning, but I do.

"Day, night, and afternoon, I will take you in all forms - when you get pregnant and have that extra weight, I will take you in that too. I want to grow old with you. I want to travel the world with you and live our lives to the fullest. It doesn't matter where we go in the world because you are my world. I want our friends to ask us five, ten years down the road: you two are still together? How are you not disgusted of seeing each other every day? We won't care about what they'll say because we love each other. So Alyssa, will you be the Mrs. to my Mr.?"

"Yes, until death do us part."
