After putting all my things in Parker's apartment, I sat on the couch.
"Thank you for letting me move in early." I sighed.
"No problem. What's wrong?"
"I'm telling Audrey how I feel tomorrow."
"IS MY SHIP COMING TRUE?!" Parker cheered.
"Relax, Parker. I highly doubt she feels the same way. That's why I am dreading telling her."
As the next day came around, I walked through the doors, thinking of how I would tell her.
Audrey was standing by the bench.
"Hi, I need to tell you something."
She looked at me.
"So... I like-"
The principal came out and walked towards us.
"Audrey, your mom is at the hospital. Your dad is waiting out front." He interrupted me.
"Oh my gosh! Okay. Can we talk some other time, Chase?" She asked.
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Bye." She said and rushed out of the front doors.
The next week, she returned to school. She was crying on the bench as I walked up to her.
"Are you okay?"
"Chase, my mom died." She sobbed.
I sat next to her and rubbed her back.
"It'll be okay. I know it must be hard, but I have faith in you."
She looked at me, makeup running down her cheeks.
Audrey's point of view
I stared at Chase. His eyes were sparkling, and something was... different about him. He continued rubbing my back and I continued staring at him.
He took his sleeve and wiped my eyes.
"You just got makeup on your shirt." I sighed.
"I don't care."
I cracked a little smile.
Honestly, Chase is the only person that can make me smile when I feel like dying.
He started writing something down on a piece of paper and he handed it to me.
"It's my number if you ever need me."
I smiled bigger and hugged him.
"I'm lucky to have you in my life." I cried on his chest.
He rubbed my back more and held me tight.
"I'm luckier to have you in my life."
He held me so tight, like he was trying to protect me from everything, like he was protecting me from the pain in the world.
I felt a drop in my hair.
I looked up at him to see him crying.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes." He smiled as more tears fell from his cheeks.
"Audrey, this is one of those times that I can honestly say I'm okay."
The bell rang and we both got up.
He hugged me tight.
"I'm proud of you."
I looked at him.
"Nobody has ever told me that before."
"I could tell you a thousand times."
Chase's point of view
I actually held her. I actually had her in my arms. I couldn't believe it. After school, I ran to the lobby to wait for Audrey. I had notes in my hand. I held them up to rehearse what I would tell her.
"Audrey, you're amazing, and I really need to tell you something." I said, reading off of the note, practicing.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. I jumped and all the notes fell down.
I turned around to see Audrey.
"What are you doing?" She laughed.
"What did you hear?" I asked and blushed.
She had the same confused look on her face as the day I met her.
I stared at her, forgetting the world.
"Chase!" She said and pinched my arm.
She giggled and we walked towards the front door.
"Wait..." I said and ran back to get the notes. She helped me pick them up and she looked at one as I was gathering the rest.
"'Audrey... I like you. I really do. I've been trying to find a way to tell you.'" She read the note aloud.
I quickly looked at her, my eyes widening.
"Oh fuck." I mumbled.
"Chase, what is this?" She asked.
"I..." My mouth stayed opened as I stuttered nonsense.
"I know, you're out of my league and you're probably not ready to be in a relationship and I'm too... me... -" I interrupted.
I looked at her.
"Tell me honestly, what were you going to do with these?"
I sighed and shuffled through the notes.
"I know you're going through a tough time, but you're amazing and you can get through whatever life throws at you." I read off of the note and shuffled to the next one.
"My life has been a million times better since I met you. I can't get you off of my mind."
I gently took the note from her hands.
"Audrey, I like you. I really do. I've been trying to find a way to tell you." I said and looked at her.
I blushed and looked at the ground.
She wrapped her arms around my waist and put her head underneath mine.
I held her tight.
"Audrey?" I asked.
"Will you go on a date with me?" I asked, blushing even more.
"I'd love to." She smiled.
She looked up at me and we looked into each other's eyes.
We leaned in and our lips touched. I felt like I was in heaven.
