"Harlan!" My social worker, Madylynn yelled. I sighed and ignored her hoping she would stop yelling at me soon. "Harlan Dean McKeever! Get your ass up! We have to go get to the airport or we'll be late!"
I groaned and heard my door open. "Harlen..." She started to say before I threw a pillow at her. Out of the corner of my eye I could see her glaring at me. She sighed and sat at the edge of the bed.
"Leave me alone." I grumbled.
She sighed again and rubbed my back. "Sweetie..." I grimaced. "I know you don't like planes and that you don't want to go to another home, but you never know. You may end up getting a family that cares about you. Or even a girlfriend."
I snorted. "Girls think I'm a bad boy. I already told you. I don't want someone who just judges me because of how I dress and my attitude. And that's the only reason they like me." I said pointedly.
"I know, but you still never know." She patted my back. "I'll make you a deal, if you get dressed quickly we can go to Mcdonalds real quick and get some breakfast."
I peeked up. I don't even remember the last time I had Mcdonalds. The last family I had hated junk food. "Any meal I want from the menu?"
She nodded and I jumped off of the bed like it was going to eat me. "Ok!" I yelled. I ran into the bathroom turned the shower on.
"Don't forget a towel." She yelled and threw a towel through the open door. I smiled sheepishly.
"Thanks." I said gratefully and shut the door. I took my clothes off and stepped into the shower. I relaxed and started to think. I hate being alone most of the time because then I just think about my family. When I was 2 years old my family died from a fire. I was the only one that the firefighters saved in time. My mom had me hiding in her shirt away from the smoke. If she didn't do that I would have died.
I first met Madylynn when I was 5. That was the first time someone decided they wanted to adopt me. They were a terrible family. They put me to work and only cared about the money that the government gave them to help feed me. After a couple of years Madylynn got me out of there.
A knock snapped me out of my thoughts. "Please tell me your packed." Madylynn called through the door.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes! I may not want to go to another family but I was kind of hoping you would use Mcdonalds as a leverage." I said sheepishly.
"You little brat." She laughed and I heard my bedroom door close. I shook my head and smiled. I finished washing my hair and body. I stepped out and dried of quickly, I wanted my Mcdonalds. Stepping into my room I saw the mom from the last family standing in the door way awkwardly.
I raised my eyebrows at her. She cleared her throat and said, "Good luck with your new family."
"Thanks." I said, trying not to let the anger show through. She was just like all of the other families, giving up on me without even trying to understand my point of view. It's not like I killed some one. All I did was spray paint behind an old building. But of course I have really bad luck and got caught. They decided they didn't want a delinquent.
She waved and walked out. I rolled my eyes and went to my duffle bag on my bed. I don't have that much stuff with me. Just some family albums, with my real family and some old baby stuff. Everything else was clothes and my computer that I worked very hard for to buy.
I grabbed a grey t-shirt, batman boxers, and some jeans. I grinned. These boxers were my favorite. I threw them on and put my duffle bag on my shoulder. For the last time I looked around my room and locked the memories in my head. It would just be another room that I have stayed in.
I walked out and found Maddy in the kitchen. "You ready to go?"
I nodded. "Yeah. Let's get this over with." She nodded and walked to the door. I followed her. She opened the door and we walked out. I sighed and looked at the house one last time after we got to the car. Time to start a new life.
