There was a large man that looked like a giant, calling, "Firs' years over 'ere! Firs' years over 'ere!" Kate, hair now her normal brown, rolled up to him.
She yelled, "Hello mister? Pardon me, but who are you?"
The large man called, "Oh! You're tha' Kate Smithson! My name's Hagrid. Rubeus Hagrid." Kate smiled and went to find her friends. They were over by small boats on the lake. George pulled her into the boat with him, Fred, and Lee. Once they were finally going, Hagrid called, "Forward!"
The boats lurched forward, and before falling over the edge, Lee grabbed her and pulled her into a warm hug. But Kate didn't want that, so she slapped him across the face again. Lee, who was grinning like an idiot, dreamily muttered, "She's got spunk!" Kate grabbed him, plunged his head into the ice cold lake, and brought him back up. His dreadlocks were soaked, as well as his face, but he still muttered, "Spunk!"
They ducked under the cliff, and when they came back up, you could see the tall, beautifully lit castle. There were oohs and aahs from everyone. When they reached land, Hagrid took them up to a huge set of doors and opened them, leading them into a large entry hall.
In front of them was Professor McGonagall. She said, "Thank you, Hagrid. I'll take it from here." Hagrid left the hall. "Welcome to Hogwarts. The start-of term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.
"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has a noble history and has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, triumphs will earn you house points, but any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest smarting yourselves up as much as you can while you're waiting." Her eyes lingered to Lee's still soaked dreadlocks and some dirt on Fred's nose. Kate nervously tried to straighten her white hair. "I will return when we are waiting for you. Please wait quietly."
She walked out of the entry hall and a taller, beefy girl stepped in front of Kate. She said, "Hi. My name is Dylan. Dylan Crabbe. I'm pure-blood. It seems you've found the blood traitors. You should know that some families are better than others."
Kate whispered, "For your information, Crabbe, I'm a foster child, and the Weasleys are my current family. Obviously, they are the better ones." Dylan was about to say something (through her gritted teeth) when there came a small cough from behind her.
There stood Professor McGonagall, and she said, "Miss Smithson, is Miss Crabbe bothering you?"
Kate said, "Not any more."
McGonagall sharply nodded and said, "Follow me." She threw open the huge doors, and it was obvious why it was called the Great Hall. There were four long tables full of students talking and laughing, and in the front there was a stage with another long table that had teachers seated at it. McGonagall led them over to a three-legged stool with a hat on it. The hat quickly sung a short song and McGonagall said, "When I call your name, you will come up here. Crabbe, Dylan."
The hat didn't even touch her head and it called, "SLYTHERIN!"
"Jordan, Lee." Lee slowly walked up to the stool and sat down.
After a minute, "GRYFFINDOR!"
"GRYFFINDOR!" It said it without hesitation.
"GRYFFINDOR!" Again without hesitation.
There were at least twenty more, and Kate was left with a tall girl with darker skin and chocolate-colored eyes.
Angelina walked up there and the sorting hat shouted, "GRYFFINDOR!"
"Smithson, Kathryn." The whole school went silent. Kate was about to roll up there when McGonagall walked down and placed the Sorting Hat on her head. Kate heard the hat talking in her head:
Why hello Miss Kathryn. I've been waiting a long time to meet you. Now, where to put you? Not Slytherin, not a bone in your body. Ravenclaw would fit well, but Gryffindor and Hufflepuff would fit as well as Ravenclaw. I'd rule out Ravenclaw, your emotions are too powerful. And otherwise Hufflepuff is out, you want to be with your friends and family. So now I know where to put you. "GRYFFINDOR!"
It shouted out the last part to everybody. The Gryffindor table erupted with applause. Kate passed the hat to McGonagall and rolled over to the table. Dumbledore stood up and cheerfully said, "Welcome to another wonderful year at Hogwarts! I must say something before we begin our beautifully prepared feast. The Forbidden Forest is forbidden to students, hence the name. Also, one of our students that has just been Sorted, Miss Kate Smithson, should not be treated differently than all of you. She is an Animagus to assist her disability, so don't be surprised if you see a small Yorkshire Terrier running through the hall. Tuck in!"
Everyone looked to Kate for a moment, who's hair turned pink on impact. But before everyone could make her feel any worse, they all noticed food filling the plates. Kate instantly grabbed some chicken wings and started chowing down. The girls looked at her like she was crazy, and she stammered, "The d-dog takes more energy."
They all started talking. Angelina, the darker girl, said to her, "Hi! My name's Angelina."
Kate smiled, hair lilac, and said, "I'm Kate." They talked for awhile and finally all the food disappeared.
Kate was stuffed and Dumbledore said, "Off to bed! Pip,pip." The prefects led them up the stairs, so Kate went dog. People were smiling and laughing at the sight. Kate ran and jumped into Angelina's arms, and Angelina carried her upstairs.
When they reached a portrait called 'The Fat Lady', the prefect said, "Fortitudo." The portrait swung forward, revealing a large common room.
When they had gotten in, Angelina set Kate down and she turned back. Kate rolled up to the prefect and asked, "Fortitudo? Isn't that Latin for bravery?"
The prefect nodded and said, "Yes. You're that Kate. I'm Lina Thomas. To get to the first-years' dormitory, go up the stairs on the right, and you'll find a door that has a number 1 on it out of seven doors. You're trunk will be at the foot of your bed. Nice to meet you."
Kate went dog and ran up the stairs, to the right, through the door with the 1. In there was Angelina talking to a girl with tan skin and long, dark braids, and another girl with really long brown hair that ran down to the end of her back. Kate turned human and said, "Hi, I'm Kate Smithson."
The dark braided girl said, "Alicia Spinnet."
The other girl said, "I'm Kennedy Zimbermann. Nice to meet you."
Angelina spoke, "Angelina Johnson." There was an awkward silence until Willow meowed. Everyone burst out laughing and Angelina said, "Let's get unpacked."
They all started pulling things out of there trunks. In the room were four different four-poster beds along with nightstands on the left side of the bed that had four drawers. On the right side of the bed was a tall shelf that had a place with hangers to hang robes, and on the bottom was a very deep drawer.
Kate hung up all of her robes, cloaks, shirts, sweaters, pants, and skirts, and then put her button-downed shirts, red and gold ties, jumpers, skirts, leggings for colder days, socks, a pair of shoes, and a pair of boots for winter. She carefully sorted out all of clothes in the drawers, then moved on to her school supplies.
Kate opened the deepest drawer and put her cauldron, brass scales, crystal vials, and her telescope in. She opened the next one, one that was a bit shallower than the bottom one, and put as many school books as she could. The next one was shallower, and she put the rest of the school books in that drawer. In the top drawer, she folded up the backpack that she had to carry her stuff around. Then she put her bottomless/weightless bag in there, along with her dragon-hide gloves and her pointed black hat.
She took Blythe (her owl) out of her cage and told her, "Go to the school owlery. I hear it's very nice." Kate opened the window and Blythe flew out. She put her cage on the shelf under her robes. Kate went and got ready for bed, and floated herself onto the bed. She put her wand on the table and Willow came over and laid on her, purring, as they fell asleep.
