The past few months have been pretty normal. Skylar picks me up everyday for school, then drops me off at home. We have become really close in those weeks. Almost every weekend I would stay the night at his place. Dean, his little brother and Jason came close as well. They always go to the library after school for a few hours to do homework and hang out.
We have about a month left for school. Actually, we have 2 and half weeks left. I can’t wait for summer, just sitting in all day getting to read. Although I would like to get a job, my father won’t let me until I’m 17. Which will be in a few months, August 19th to be exact.
“Nixon! Skylar’s here for you!” Alyssa called up to me. I closed my laptop and grabbed my bag off the ground. We have today off due to a staff work day. Skylar and I are going to go the movies and work on some music we have to practice for the concert on Friday, it was Wednesday today.
I ran down the stairs and put on my shoes. “What time will you be home?” Alyssa asked
“Well the movies stars at 11:45. Ends at 1, then we’re going back to his place to work on some music. So I should be home by 4 or 4:30.”
“Alright, have fun honey. Call me.” She walked over to the door.
“Alright. Will do!” I shout back at her as I walk over to the car at the end of the driveway.
“Hey.” Skylar said along with a large smile. I say hello back and buckle up. The radio was playing Bloodline by Crown the Empire. I reached my hand over to the volume knob and slightly turned it up. “This is my favorite song by them.” I told him and he agreed. The rest of the way to the theater we didn’t talk, just listened to the radio.
We got to the theater, picked out a movie, which was Deadpool. We got a large popcorn and two small drinks. We walked into the theater and took a seat, waiting in silence for the movie to start.
When the movie was over we were walking to his car Skylar says something. “Are you buys this summer? Like do you have a summer job or something?”
“No, I have nothing to do. Why?” I ask as I open the car door.
“Because, every summer me, Dean, and my parents go to a cabin we have up in the hills, and by the beach. Dean can’t go, he has summer school. My parents don’t want to leave him alone. They said I could go by myself, and I could bring a friend.” He started the car. “Would you like to go? We would leave the day after school gets out and comeback 3 days before school gets back in.” He said pulling out of the parking lot.
“I’ll ask when I get home. I’m sure I can go.” I said looking out the window. Out of all the people he knows, why me? “No offense, but why ask me? Someone you’ve only know for a few months to go on a summer long trip with, alone.” I turned to look at him, the lighting was just right to frame his strong jawline, and high cheekbones.
“Well, I couldn’t bring Harmony. For obvious reason. And I really like you Nixon.” My heart jumped when he said that. What is happening? “And we seem to hit it off pretty well, just thought, well maybe you would like to go with me. There’s enough food there to last us a month and my parents will give me 1,000 dollars to get food from town and whatever we need.”
“1,000 dollars?! You’re parents can just give that to you?! What do they do for a living? I must know.” I leaned forward in my seat.
“They’re both lawyers.” He said smiling at me. “They just put it on a card.”
“Well, yeah. I’ll ask. I’m sure I can go. My father really likes you. I don’t see why he would have a problem with it.”
“Nixon, I said no. His parents will not be there and you are too young.” My father said as he stood up from the kitchen table.
“Dad, just hear me out. Yo-”
“I said no Nixon.” He placed his plate in the sink.
“Honey, let’s just hear what he has to say. Then you can give him an answer.” Alyssa placed her hand oh my father's shoulder. He just nodded and looked at me.
“Well, we would leave the day after school gets out. It’s a 3 hour drive. It’s In Anderson . We would come back 3 days before school lets back in. We’ll have money, food, everything we need. I’ll call and send pictures if you want. They have neighbors that will come and check on us ever so often.” I said rather quickly.
“Well, if there are people near you guys and will check up on you. Then I don’t see the problem.”
“Thank you so much dad!” I hugged him.
“Oh. Hugging. Haven’t done that in a while. Just be sure to call me when you get there.” He said and wrapped his arms around me. I ran up stairs and called Skylar.
“Hey it’s me”
“Oh hey Nixon. What’s up?”
“He said I can go!”
“Oh that’s awesome!”
“Yeah. So any special things I should bring?”
“Uh, swimsuit, clothes, shampoo. Just the essentials.”
“Alright. So you ready for the concert Friday?”
“Oh yeah definitely. How about you? With the big solo?”
“Oh. I got this. Trust me, It’s alllll under control.” We talked for what seemed like hours.
We said our goodbyes, I took out my laptop and opened up a story I’m working on. I wrote for 3 hours straight.
