The Ridgalite

The Rigalite focuses on the People who lived in Marina Avenue in the Ridges Estate in North Shields. Eddie Saint owns the Roaring venture a trawler moored at the fish quay- his crew work hard and play hard - one of them is Ron Lee a young lad who has aspirations of becoming a rock star. He was in the Royal Navy on board the HMS Illustrious as a trained chef before joining the trawler boat. The lads all tell him that his songs are crap because they don't wan't to lose a good cook. The story also tells of two rival shop keepers- Ronnie Hancock and Billy Burston have been each others throats for years- read the comic antics of both men. "The Ridgalite is an insite of life in the early sixties on an an estate with high unemployment and little hope - where every day is a constant struggle. There are some though who prove that if you have hope then dreams can come true.

Moaning with pleasure they lay together in each others arms. They picked up their glasses and drank from them as they stroked each other in the light of the bedroom.

They made love throughout the night until they both fell into a sound sleep.

In the morning both took a shower together then redressed they came down to the buffet breakfast before heading back. There were three messages on Ron’s phone when he got back. It was from Chris Parmeinter; he wanted to know when he was going to record the next album.’

“God, I have only been away three days and he expects me to write an album in that time.’

“Do you have to go back?’

“No I do not; he is my manager not my keeper.’ I will go back when I feel like going back not when he summons me.’

I’m going to give him a call.’

“I will let you do that as I have to get back to the farm.’“ I see you later if you want to come to dinner.’

“Alright I will see you around seven o’clock then.’

Sally left and Ron dialled the number that Chris had left on his answer phone.

The truck pulled up outside of Dougie’s house at six thirty that morning they were thirty minutes early.’

Besek introduced his friends to Dougie. This is Cezar Bukoski, Danek Chlebek, Heniek Flipek, Donek Grumulka, and Janko Gorski. They all shook his hand firmly and thanked Dougie for allowing them to work for him.’

Dougie was about to jump into the truck but they asked him to sit with Cezar up front.

They drove to the boat yard where the crane had been ordered to lift the finished vessel into the water. They had to be there for eight o’clock or it would cost them for another hour which was expensive. The reverend Ralph Mason had promised to come to bless the boat so everything had to be like clock work. Once they reached the boat yard the men all jumped out the crane driver arrived shortly after. Instinctively the men knew what to do as the secured the padded winch then the heavy chains were attached and the boat lifted The Reverend arrived just as the crane was about to lift The Christian into the water and he spread holy water upon her deck and gave the blessing. Cezar drove the truck back to North Shields Fish Quay as the others came aboard. Dougie started the engine as Basek made sure she was running smoothly.

All the men did not need to be told what to do they pulled out the net and checked every inch of her making repairs as they went. The newly painted boat sailed towards Tynemouth piers and into the gut where she would be moored along side Eddie Saints boat the Roaring Venture. Eddie was aboard with Des Baldwin as they watched “The Christian” sail into the gut.

“She’s a fine looking boat Dougie; are these men going to be her crew?’

They are; all hard working men hand picked by my engineer Basek Budny.

They are all Polish?’

Yes; they work for half of what you were paying us.’
