The Ridgalite

The Rigalite focuses on the People who lived in Marina Avenue in the Ridges Estate in North Shields. Eddie Saint owns the Roaring venture a trawler moored at the fish quay- his crew work hard and play hard - one of them is Ron Lee a young lad who has aspirations of becoming a rock star. He was in the Royal Navy on board the HMS Illustrious as a trained chef before joining the trawler boat. The lads all tell him that his songs are crap because they don't wan't to lose a good cook. The story also tells of two rival shop keepers- Ronnie Hancock and Billy Burston have been each others throats for years- read the comic antics of both men. "The Ridgalite is an insite of life in the early sixties on an an estate with high unemployment and little hope - where every day is a constant struggle. There are some though who prove that if you have hope then dreams can come true.

You’re on the night flight to Hades

 Where the devil waits

Where there’s only hell below us

At the cemetery gates

You’re on the night fight to Hades

Let the devil take your soul

A place you’ll live forever

Where you’ll never feel the cold

I screamed oh lord please help me

I’m in the devil’s grip

Cos my faith’s been brought to question

Please don’t let me slip

I promise you that I’ll repent

And pay you every dollar spent

If only you’ll forgive

Oh Jesus let me live

Chorus

You’re on a night flight to Hades

Where the devil waits

Where there’s only hell below us

At the cemetery gates

You’re on a night flight to Hades

Let the devil take your soul

A place you’ll live forever

Where you’ll never feel the cold

When they had finished it Paul and Stan looked at it then Barry started to put a tune to it. Ron found the chorus soon after then they put the whole thing together.

“Well guys; there’s one for the next album said Barry.’ I can design something for the album cover Paul proclaimed. He took out his sketch pad and began drawing a dragon with a man upon its back looking down at the gates of hell.

“I like that said Ron as Paul used pastels to colour it in. Above it written in the flames was Satan’s Claw’ “Night Flight to Hades.’

Stan Taylor the drummer said it was brilliant as he looked over his seat.’

More beer lads said Paul as he got the eye of Sandra the trolley dolly he had been talking to.

“Could we eight beers please Sandra?’

“Yes; I will bring them to you in a moment.’

By eleven that evening the lads were all asleep they were still asleep as the plane came in to land and they were woken by the intercom as the captain spoke.’

“Welcome to America guys; let the good times roll.’
