The Ridgalite

The Rigalite focuses on the People who lived in Marina Avenue in the Ridges Estate in North Shields. Eddie Saint owns the Roaring venture a trawler moored at the fish quay- his crew work hard and play hard - one of them is Ron Lee a young lad who has aspirations of becoming a rock star. He was in the Royal Navy on board the HMS Illustrious as a trained chef before joining the trawler boat. The lads all tell him that his songs are crap because they don't wan't to lose a good cook. The story also tells of two rival shop keepers- Ronnie Hancock and Billy Burston have been each others throats for years- read the comic antics of both men. "The Ridgalite is an insite of life in the early sixties on an an estate with high unemployment and little hope - where every day is a constant struggle. There are some though who prove that if you have hope then dreams can come true.

40. 40

We stand at the gates of hell fire

As the flames beckon higher and higher.

Your cursed, enter at your own peril

As you’re gripped in the claws of the devil

Brian came in with another verse that he’d written.

Lucifer tempted below

To his kingdom where evil grows

Will God be my saviour?

Mend my wicked behaviour

Can Salvation conquer, who knows?

Save me Brian screamed as Paul Caffery and Barry Smith came in with guitars.

And the crowd clapped. The finale had the crowd standing up and applauding;

It was brilliant.

Brian said he wanted a word with them all when they had finished and Ron nodded.

Brian jumped off stage and went back to his place at the bar where he was mobbed by fan’s asking for autographs.’

The band finished the set with “Hell is an Adventure.’

When it was over the crowd asked for more and they did two more numbers from the album that they had recorded.

They packed away their gear as Brian approached Ron.

“You guys were something tonight.

“Cheers Brian and I like the verse you added; can I use it?’

“Yes man, you can use it when you come over to Brooklyn as my support group for a tour that I’m doing in January next year.’

“You’re kiddin’ me right?’

“No man I’m serious; what do you say; fancy a shot at the big time?’

“Too right we do.’

Okay here’s my phone number I will give you all the details later. Have a nice Christmas.’

With that Brian left the club and got into a black mustang and drove away.

“Looks like we’re lookin’ for a new cook mate said Eddie.’

“Sorry Skipper.’

“Don’t be sorry man, you go for it. Eddie embraced his cook then left with his wife.’

The lads all shook hands with Ron as they left.’

Hey shouted Vince, remember us when you hit the big time.’

Ron laughed then picked up his guitar and placed it into the case.

Paula waited outside for Doug then drove him to his house.’

Do you want to come in he asked.’

“Okay just for ten minutes mind as my mother will go mental with me.’

“I won’t keep you I promise.’

Doug showed her around his house on the corner of Marina Avenue.’

“What do you think?’

It’s really nice, I’m surprised at you Doug; your DIY skills are good.’

If you can apply your wood working skills to a boat that you could buy then you could save a lot of money.’
