Jace and I were walking towards the parking lot when I decided that I had to tell him the real reason why I was coming out here.
"Hey Jace. Can I tell you something?" I asked nervously and stopped walking once we got outside, standing by the school doors.
"Of course Sophie we're best friends. What's up?" Jace replied, standing next to me.
"Okay. Please don't hate me but I didn't come out here to get something from Grace's car." I said, looking away from Jace and looking at the sidewalk.
"Then why did you come out here?" Jace questioned looking confused.
"Well, I was actually going to talk to some friends." I said looking back up at Jace. "Wanna know a secret?" I asked, smiling a little.
"Okay and why wouldn't I want to know a secret?" Jace questioned.
"Okay. You can't tell Grace that I'm telling you this, but I think that the guy she's going out with tonight is going to be here. His name is Ashton and that's why I asked her to come out here with me." I said still smiling.
"Really? Cool. I promise I won't tell her." Jace smiled back.
"I know you won't. I trust you." I said before we started walking again.
I looked at where I was supposed to be meeting Michael and saw him and the other boys standing by the tree talking and laughing with each other causing me to smile.
"Okay. Ashton is the shortest one in the group with the curly brown hair and hazel eyes." I said.
"Okay. Him and Grace would look good together." Jace said, looking over at Ashton.
"That's what I told her." I laughed.
We continued walking until we crossed the parking lot and got to where the boys were. Luke was the first to notice me and greeted me.
"Hey Sophie!" He said walking towards me and hugging me. I noticed that the other boys were now looking over at me and smiling.
"Hey Luke. Hey guys." I smiled, pulling out of the hug.
Luke walked back to where he was standing while I started talking.
"So guys this is my best guy friend, Jace!" I said excitedly, hoping that Jace wouldn't notice who they are. I'm not worried about the boys starting anything, I'm just worried about Jace.
The boys all looked at Jace and greeted him.
"Hey Jace. I'm Luke." Luke smiled at Jace.
"I'm Calum." Calum said.
"I'm Ashton." Ashton smiled.
"I know who you are." Jace laughed making me give him a look to shut up.
"You do?" Ashton asked raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms to which Jace just nodded.
"I told him that you and Grace are going on a date tonight." I said looking at Ashton.
"Oh. That makes sense." Ashton smiled, uncrossing his arms.
I turned to look at Michael to see if he was going to talk to Jace and found him glaring at Jace.
"Well, this is Michael." I smiled, walking over to stand next to him and gently nudging him to tell him to stop glaring. I don't get why he's mad he was laughing just a little bit ago. Michael turned to look at me giving me a what was that for look before turning to look at Jace again.
"So Michael, is there a reason that you wanted me to come out here?" I asked, trying to get him to feel better. He turned to look at me before speaking.
"Yeah. I wanted to tell you about Travis." He said, sounding a little annoyed. Maybe that's why he's in a little bit of a mood.
"Okay. I mean I don't really want to talk about him, but I know you don't either so I'm guessing this is pretty important." I said and Michael nodded his head.
"When I went to look for him I couldn't find him anywhere. So I asked some friends if they've seen him and they couldn't find him either so as of now he could be anywhere." He stated.
"Oh okay." I said feeling a little uneasy.
"Don't worry. We'll find him soon and make sure that he doesn't do anything." Michael's expression softened and he sent me a reassuring smile.
"Wait. Who's Travis? And why does it matter where he is?" Jace spoke up. Michael let out a deep sigh before turning to him.
"He's just a guy that Sophie doesn't want around her." He said sounding annoyed again.
"Oh. Okay." Jace said and turned around talking to the other boys.
"Michael?" I questioned.
"What?" He asked, turning his attention back to me.
"Why are you mad?" I asked. I originally thought that it was because of the Travis thing but he seems to dislike Jace for some reason.
"It's nothing Sophie." He said.
"I don't think it's nothing. You can talk to me. I'll listen." I said.
"Thanks Sophie, but it's nothing." He said sounding like he didn't want to talk about this anymore. I knew that him being mad wasn't nothing, but I didn't want him to get more mad and possibly lose his temper so I changed the subject.
"So, what do you think about Ashton and Grace?" I asked, smiling a little.
He just shrugged. "It's cool I guess."
"That's all you think? Michael one of your best friends is going on a date!" I said in disbelief. Shouldn't he at least be a little excited for Ashton?
"Yeah. Ashton goes on dates a lot, so it's not really something to get excited over." He said.
"He does?" I asked.
"Uh huh. Why?" Michael asked.
"Because I want to know if he actually likes Grace or if he's just going to go on a date with her and then never talk to her again. Grace is my best friend and I know she likes Ashton. She was so excited this morning when she told me that they were going on a date tonight." I said, crossing my arms. My best friend likes this guy and I'm not going to let her walk right into another heartbreak.
"Well from the way he talks about her, I'm assuming he actually likes her but if you want I can find out." Michael said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Yup. I'm pretty sure if your friend--"
"Best friend." I corrected him.
"Sorry your best friend. I'm pretty sure that if your best friend was upset then you would be too and I don't want you to be upset." He replied.
"Thanks Michael." I smiled, hugging him. He hugged me back and I heard the warning bell go off. "I should probably go. First hour starts in five minutes and I still have to get my stuff." I said pulling away from the hug.
"Okay. Bye Sophie." He said.
"Bye Michael." I replied before we both turned our attention to our friends.
"Alright boys we've got a job to do. Let's go." Michael said before turning to walk away with Luke, Calum, and Ashton following behind.
We should probably go back inside." I said looking at Jace.
"Yeah. You're right." He replied before we started walking towards the school.
"I'm sorry I kinda just talked to Michael the whole time." I apologized.
"It's okay." Jace smiled.
"He isn't usually that annoyed all the time either." I said.
"Sophie it's okay. I just don't think that he likes me." Jace shrugged.
"He might. He could have just been in a bad mood." I said causing Jace to laugh. "What?"
"Sophie he doesn't like me cause I'm a guy." He laughed.
"Not true. Luke, Calum, and Ashton are guys and he gets along with them." I pointed out.
"How?" I asked, stopping and turning to look at Jace.
"Do you really want to know what I think?" Jace asked.
"Okay. As a guy, I can say that I'm pretty sure that he likes you." Jace smirked.
"That's because he does. We're friends." I replied.
"No. I mean as more than friends." Jace said.
"Now you sound like Grace." I laughed. There's no way that Michael likes me like that. I don't even know if I like him like that. I mean have we even known each other long enough to develop those kinds of feelings for each other?
"Well if Grace and I, who are both your best friends by the way, are telling you the same thing then maybe we're right." Jace suggested.
"Maybe." I shrugged, not wanting to talk about this anymore.
"I can tell that you don't want to talk about this anymore so do you wanna fill me in on the Travis thing?" Jace asked as we stopped at my locker.
"Not really. I mean Michael's right, he's just a guy that I don't want to be around me." I said, taking out my math binder.
"There isn't more to the story?" Jace asked.
I shut my locker and turned around, looking at him and sighing before talking.
"There is but I don't want to talk about it. I'll tell you sometime when we're not almost late for one of our classes." I said.
"Okay. I guess I'll see ya later Sophie." Jace said and then walked to his first class as I walked to mine.
