The game ended tied. I knew the team was mad we didn't win. "Ready for the sleep over girls?" Mandy asked us. "Sure," Alicia and Katy replied. "Sure," I echoed. "Welcome to my house!" Mandy sang as we pulled up to a huge mansion. "This is your house?" I asked, practically drooling over the house. "Yep," Mandy smiled. "Hey, little baby!" An boy exclaimed. I felt myself turn red. He was perfect. He had beautiful black hair and wide, grinning eyes. I soon found out this was Mandy's younger brother. He seemed to be around my age, maybe a tiny bit older. I felt myself staring and forced myself to look away. We sat our bags down on the floor of the room. A bright red bag was thrown over mine. As we all sat down to watch a movie, I saw Anne checking her bag. She announced, "Alright girls, I have some snacks!" as she handed out packages of salted peanuts. "Oh, you might not be able to eat this huh," Anne asked me. "What?" I asked, wondering why Alicia or Katy had told her about my allergies. "Never mind," Anne replied, blushing, "Do you want some?" "Uh, no, no thanks," I smiled. "Okay," Anne shrugged and continued handing out the treats. "Okay, listen up, I got movie choices!" Mandy announced. After we all settled on watching The Fault in our Stars, everyone started eating and shoving their faces. I was bringing my hand up to my mouth when Alicia smacked me. "What the heck," I asked her. "I just saved your life," She cried, pointing to my hand. I opened my palm to reveal the special chips I had brought. "What?" I asked, annoyed. "That," Alicia pointed to small shapes in my palm, "Those are peanuts," She said. "You're right, but I packed this myself!" I replied. "Whatever" Alicia shrugged, turning back to the screen. I threw my chips away and dug into my other snacks.
"Darn it!" I yelled inside my head. Maybe if I hadn't been stupid and basically blabbered about hearing them talk it would've worked. As we watched the movie I kept my gaze on Reagan the whole time. Each time Mandy's younger brother Tyler walked by, Reagan stared hard. A loud boom came from the other room. "Oh, that's my cat!" Mandy announced, "Look I'll show you him!" I stayed in the room. As the girls were filing out of the room I grabbed Reagan's arm. "Hey, he's cute right?" I asked, pointing to Tyler. "Uh, I don't know," Reagan replied. "Well, I think he is. And he likes me back, and I actually have a chance with him," I whispered, the words falling out of my mouth. "Uh, okay, whatever," Reagan replied and caught up to the other girls. As she bounced away, her brown hair flying, I snapped another photo.
I debated whether I should tell Alicia and Katy about what Anne said or not. I decided not to, I didn't want word getting back to Anne. I wondered how she knew I liked Mandy's brother. Now, Anne was just plain weird. After seeing the cat, we headed back into the movie room. Before I realized it, the clock read 12 am. "Lights out everyone," Mandy's mom called. Everyone laughed. "Yeah, my mom thinks I'm still 10 years old," Mandy smiled at me. "Well, apparently I'm 5 at my house!" I exclaimed finishing, "But I look way younger than I am so..." As I finished my sentence someone else laughed. Mandy's brother. "Hey, nice shirt," He called, pointing to my Fall Out Boy shirt. I felt myself blush and my face turn red. "Thanks" I replied shyly. "Alright, everyone shush!" Mandy's dad yelled next. Mandy's hand flipped the switch and I crawled into my sleeping bag. I couldn't sleep at all. I wasn't tired at all, I couldn't make myself fall asleep. I heard rustling and wondered if it was Alicia or Katy snacking at 3 am. I felt my sleeping bag being yanked. "Alicia, leave me alone," I whispered. Soon enough I dozed off again. Within a few minutes something yanked my hair, hard. I gasped loudly before rolling over. Everyone was sleeping, no one moved. I told myself I was being scared and to stop being a baby. "Reagan, get up," A voice called. I was confused when I woke up. It was 8 am now, and Katy was shaking me. "Hey, who kept annoying me last night?" I asked. Alicia and Katy shrugged. Katy's scream pierced the air a moment later. "What, what?" I shouted. "Reagan, your hair!" Katy said, running and grabbing my head. I gasped. One side of my butt length hair had been cut off. Long brown strands lay in my sleeping bag. I was more scared than annoyed. What had cut my hair? Whatever grabbed my head last night. I felt myself start to tear up. "My hair!" I cried. Everyone tried to comfort me. "Just get a bob!" Mandy suggested. "That sucks," Anne replied. "Oh my god!" Jocelyn cried when she saw my uneven hair. Everyone was confused, Mandy even blamed her brother. "I'm innocent!" He cried, putting his hands up. I had to smile at that.
I had almost chickened out but when she talked to Tyler it was my last straw. I watched as she laid down and tucked her beautiful brown mane under the covers. The beautiful brown locks, the beautiful brown strands. The once butt length hair, now one side was uneven. The soft strands that were softer than I imagined.
