I sat on the park bench as I watched kids laughing. They all had wide smiles on their faces. All of a sudden I felt a tug on my sleeve. I looked down to see a little girl with a head of wild red hair.
"Do you wanna play with me?" she asked. I couldn't help but smile.
"Sure," I replied, getting up and letting her lead me.
The two of us played hopscotch for a while on an empty basketball court.
"What's your name?" I asked her.
"Ruby," she said with a bright, straight smile. "I already know yours."
"Prove it then."
"Tracie Allister." She smiled. "You're in the magazines, Tracie, and you're really pretty."
I picked her up, a smile on my face. "Ruby, you're really pretty too."
"Really?" she asked.
"Yes, you are." I smiled
"You both are," an unknown voice said.
I turned my head, and, when I realized who it was, I smiled. It was Ashton. He was standing there, right beside me.
"Do you want help me walk Ruby home? It's getting dark," I smiled.
He nodded, and Ruby pointed the way to her home. We laughed and talked all the way to her house. By the time we returned her home, Ruby was fast asleep and being carried by Ashton.
"So I guess I'm walking you home now?" Ashton asked.
"I guess, but you don't have to," I replied as we started walking away.
