The Models

4 pretty girls. 4 pretty boys. 1 big event brings them together.

21. Aberly- How?

I just sat at the back of the group, staring, unable to move, tears in my eyes fighting to stay in.

No, no, no, this couldn't be happening. If they shut down, then we were gone, too.

And, if we were going to be gone, then they'd have to fire us- Inder, Ginnifer, Tracie, and me. How would they tell us?

No, I couldn't stand around and let us be fired. If I was going to leave, I'd leave myself and not cause the girls any more problems than they'd already have.

And that is what I will do.

I got up and ran back to my room. I got my largest bag, packed everything that I needed, left a note, and ran out of the door, not looking back.

"Abs! Ab!" I heard someone call behind me, but I didn't look back.

I ran out of the apartment complex door and got into my blue car. I saw Calum run out of the door and wave to me, but I sped off into the street.

I got onto the highway and started to have regrets. The urgency on Calum's face, and the pain on it that would come later.

A tear rolled down my cheek. No, I thought, it's better this way.

I heard my phone ring. I wasn't at a stop, so I couldn't answer.

My voicemail started to talk. "Hey, Aberly, the famous model here," I said in my recording, "please leave a message after the tone and I'll get back to you unless I am ignoring you." Beep!

"Hey, Aberly," said someone. Calum. I could tell his throat was dry. "We saw your note. The girls are crying right now, so they can't talk. Look, Ab. I know it's bad, but, no matter how fast you run or drive from your problems, they still don't go away. So, I'm calling to ask you something." Calum paused and took a deep breath. "Come back. We need you. Plus, we haven't finished touring the city. Goodbye, and think about it, okay. Call you later." Click.

I sat in silence, thinking and wishing that Calum hadn't hung up and that I could've answered and explained. No, they don't know, but it's for the better. It truly is. So, no, Cal, I'm sorry, but I'm not coming back. Tour the city yourself.

I was back home with my confused mother and asking her to swear not to tell anyone that I was home.

I would be here for a while. But I wouldn't return and cause them more trouble.

No, no I wouldn't.
