5. Chapter 4
"You're a natural," I told Amethyst as she managed to climb to tree we had chosen, it was separate from the boys for some kind of privacy. I grabbed her hand and pulled her up the last little bit, "I've decided I hate trees," Amethyst complained and I laughed, "Ah don't worry you'll get used to it," I settled down against the branches. I felt Amethysts eyes on me and I looked at her and smiled, "What?" I asked. She blushed and shook her head smiling and even blushing a little,"Nothing, its just..." She trailed off causing me to sit up in concern. "Its just what?" I asked. "Am?" "Its just..," She took a deep breath and looked over at me, "How can you be so calm about this? I mean aren't we fighting for our lives? How are you so calm and confident about it?" She asked. "Well I guess its because I'm used to it," I replied sitting up. "Me and the boys we were there when it all started, when they first started changing. It was really scary and soon we all found ourselves in the already built safe houses, as though the government knew what would happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the cause of it all." I finished. "How old were you and the boys when it first started happening?" I could tell Amethyst was intrigued, I smiled at her slightly, "We were about ooh, um thirteen no fourteen I think," I smirked as her eyes widened, as she opened her mouth to say something Zach's voice came from below us, "You were thirteen you Muppet," He called. I peeked down and saw him smirking up at me, "No-one asked you," I bantered playfully. I heard Amethyst giggle behind me as Zach started climbing the tree. As soon as Zach was high enough he joined us in the canopy of branches and looked down, "Kaden come on dude," I looked down and saw Kaden starting to climb. "I'm coming Zach attack, keep your hair on," I giggled at the nickname. "Zach attack?" Amethyst asked. "Little nickname for him," Kaden explained as he joined us. Amethyst nodded in understanding at this and giggled as Kaden ruffled Zach's hair, with the younger whining and pushing his hands away. I smiled at the two goofballs and looked up at the dark sky stars shining through, "We should get some sleep guys," I said. The others nodded in agreement. We all lay down to get comfortable Kaden laying behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist. Amethyst lay facing me as Zach lay back to back with her. I gave Amethyst a comforting smile and she smiled back, I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
