“It will send our minds into a manufactured reality, and, once triggered, the portal will activate to send our bodies there as well. That will only happen if we see each other, recognize each other, accept each other. I decided to set a kiss as the final trigger.”
“We’re really doing this?”
“We have to, Calla. I won’t stay here. I don’t want to dragged off to fight in a battle that I can’t survive in a war that I don’t support. And you can’t stay to become....”
A Carrier. He couldn’t even say the word, and I myself didn’t even want to think it. I didn’t want to become that, either, another innocent young woman brainwashed and used for pleasure and reproduction. My physician had informed me just a couple of weeks ago that I had the perfect body for a Carrier.
I rest my head on Torrin’s shoulder. “I don’t want my body to be anyone’s property.”
“And it won’t be.”
I look up at him. His eyes, deep brown, are blazing with determination. His lips are set in a thoughtful line, and somehow that makes me desperate to kiss them. “Torrin...”
He looks at me, and the fire in his eyes changes, morphing into flames of love.
Our lips meet perfectly, just like always. I love the feeling of his lips on mine, the softness and the heat, the shivers trembling through my body as he slides his hands down my waist.
He gently eases me down on the soft grass, and each new kiss adds a fresh flame to the fire growing in my stomach. I hold him to me with a hand on the back of his neck and the other hand resting on the small of his back. His hair is soft and dark between my fingers.
“Calla...” he whispers against my mouth. I open my eyes, looking at him questioningly. Instead of answering the unspoken question, he slowly slides his hand down my thigh, until he reaches the hem of my dress.
“Yes,” I say, knowing without a doubt that I want this.
We remove each other’s clothing slowly, taking time to appreciate and caress. When there is no fabric left between us, our lips collide again in a kiss that is pure gold dragon fire.
“What if there’s a problem? Once we meet and remember? What if we can’t find a way to be together?”
We’re lying on the grass, me curled against his side, his arms around me. I’m still warm and floating from our love-making.
“We will find a way. We’re star-matched, Calla. Star matches always find their other half again. We’ll be fine.” He seals this promise with a soft kiss that makes me forget everything but Torrin.
