Mother she shouted as she entered the house and her mother came from the kitchen and greeted Russell. Where is father he is in the conservatory reading I think? He likes to sit in there. Come through mother I have news; Annabella walked into the conservatory with Russell and her father looked up from his book.
“Hello darling have you had a good night?’
“Yes father, Russell has asked me to marry him and I’ve said yes.’
“Bloody marvellous; about time too I say.’
Kevin Michaels got to his feet and shook Russell by the hand and Elizabeth embraced him.
“So when is the wedding going to be asked her mother?’
“Mother we just got engaged it will take a fair bit of planning you know.’
“I think we should have a drink to celebrate; I mean it’s not everyday that my daughter gets engaged is it.’
“Father it is late,’ and you are just recovering from pneumonia.’
One drink isn’t going to kill me he said as he went to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of Monet Champagne and opened it whilst Elizabeth brought the glasses.
Kevin poured the champagne then made a toast. “To Annabella and Russell may they be happy together,’
Annabella kissed Russell then sipped on her champagne. She was so happy she thought that her heart would burst as they sat together on the cane sofa in the conservatory. They chatted until after one in the morning. Russell told Annabella that he would see her later that day. “We have to tell my parents so will you come with me?’
“Yes, will you pick me up?’
“Is two o’clock okay’ I have to go into work to do a bit paper work first.’
“Yes darling that is fine.’
Russell said good night to Elizabeth and Kevin before he left. He stood in the doorway and kissed Annabella he didn’t want to leave her but he had to. Getting into his car he started the engine then drove away. Russell had never felt better in his life he wasn’t tired, the adrenalin going through his body was exhilarating.’
He thought about his sister as she and her new husband would now be in Benidorm sipping Pena colada’s by the pool. He had always wanted to fly to some exotic location so he decided that Annabella and he would go to Thailand for their honeymoon. They could even hop on a plane and visit Australia as well whilst they were half way across the world. He pulled into the driveway then locked the car and went inside the house on Collingwood Terrace.
He sat in the chair that looked out across St Edward’s bay after making himself a cup of tea. He stayed there until the dawn broke watching the sky change colour; thinking how magical it all was as the light changed from a bright orange to grey then blue. The North East coastline was the most beautiful place to be in the summer months but it took a battering from the elements in winter.
He changed his clothes then made his way out to his office.
